These questions are so important to ask - for media, governments, and all of us with a role in disaster risk reduction. I would add that we should also ask “what do we need to change? What holds us back? How can we adapt or change the system with greater urgency?”

Every year the disruption and damage from intensifying storms like Helene and Milton forces community displacement and devastation. As a planner and witness of the heartbreaking aftermath of natural disasters, the need to plan for equitable climate resilience becomes increasingly evident and urgent. Joseph Mendonca and I worked with amazing partners in Fort Pierce, FL over the past year to raise awareness about the impacts that intensifying storms and flooding have on housing affordability, infrastructure, and economic development in their community. Through 1) improved access to federal funding for historically marginalized communities impacted by extreme weather, 2) development of affordable housing that is out of harm's way, and 3) implementation of nature-based solutions, we can begin to be more prepared and protect our residents. Check out our video below to hear from the community, and read more in our blog linked in the comments. https://lnkd.in/ecdNZQPd Canieria Gardner, Sandra Bogan, Rachel Tennant, Vincent Encomio, Oscar Hance

The experts at Argonne National Laboratory & FEMA are the real deal when it comes to building #ClimateResilience. That’s why we at AT&T chose to work with both organizations in developing the Climate Risk & Resilience Portal (ClimRR), a tool that helps communities across America access high-quality #climate data for free. Collaborative efforts are essential for #resilience. #NationalResilienceMonth
