🇵🇹 A little Web Summit news: The largest number of startups ever will be at Web Summit this November. Today we share the data for the first time. The number of American startups exhibiting in Lisbon will surpass 150 for the first, reaching more than 250! The number of startups exhibiting from both the UK and Germany will reach ~300 for each country, up sharply on 2023. The number of startups exhibiting from Spain and Italy will increase by more than 50% compared to 2023, to ~170 from Spain and ~100 from Italy. These rates of growth are unprecedented for Web Summit. But non-traditional markets are also up sharply too. The number of startups exhibiting from Serbia for example, will exceed 50, which is more than double the number compared to 2023. The number of startups exhibiting from Finland has also doubled in just a single year. And that’s just startups who are exhibiting. There are far more founders and startups simply attending; networking, listening, learning. We estimate there will be ~15,000 founders at Web Summit this year. A large part of this unprecedented growth is driven by a boom in bootstrapped startups. That boom is ushering in a new era in tech. Traditional, early stage VCs are increasingly being sidelined, while a new generation of bootstrapped startups are starting and scaling without them. For the first time, "seeking investment" is no longer the top priority for startups at Web Summit. It's “meeting customers”. Tech is changing. And Web Summit is changing to meet this new reality. So why is there a boom in bootstrapped startups? Perhaps it is because it has never been cheaper to build software; perhaps it is because it has never been cheaper to scale a software startup; perhaps it is because it has never been easier to find customers; perhaps it is because major tech companies fired hundreds of thousands of highly talented staff in recent years and many of those are now bootstrapping a new generation of startups. Whatever it is, you'll meet an entirely new generation of founders and startups at Web Summit, more of them bootstrapping than ever before in our history. The numbers are unprecedented. The entire Web Summit team has worked flat out for the last year to hit this incredible milestone. The entire team of more than 300, who've worked full time throughout the year, can’t wait to welcome you and an entirely new generation of founders and startups to Lisbon. See you all in November.

⚡️And that's a wrap on VDS 2024🔥 Attending my first Digital Summit in Valencia VDS was a fantastic experience. The organization was top-notch, the venue was stunning, and the variety of innovative startups impresses. Over 1,5k investors and 1,4k startups worldwide, making it clear that Valencia is becoming a real tech hub🏆 🫂I was super glad to meet my friends and meet new faces. It was a pleasure to exchange ideas with many incredible startups, see how they participate, and hear their pitches. It was inspiring to see such a diverse range of creative minds and hear the unique visions behind their projects. 🎯My goals were twofold: first, to discover new leads and exciting projects, and second, to understand the application process and requirements for presenting at such events. With our startup in the pre-seed stage, learning from those who pitched this year was essential, gaining insights and tips to better prepare for next year’s summit. Looking forward to next year 🙌 #vds #tech #techsummit #conference #summit #startup #valencia #design #webdesign #uxui #branding

💡 We are excited to share some meaningful industry insights from our recently concluded Global MediaTech Pitch Day! All in all, we received applications from 43 countries, showcasing the event's global appeal in the mediatech innovation realm. We conducted a study that included not only the startups that applied, but also, every emerging company we invited to participate. Our analysis identified 847 early-stage mediatech startups across Europe seeking funding. Spain has emerged as a particularly vibrant hub in this landscape. One thing we found remarkable about Spanish startups is their balanced market focus: 67% target both B2B and B2C. However, what's truly impressive is that 100% of them aim for a global audience from the get-go. In terms of economics, our analysis shows that, looking for recurrent income streams, 67% of these companies are embracing subscription models, and 60% of them are combining them with freemium strategies to optimise customer acquisition and revenue growth. From our perspective, this predominantly early-stage ecosystem in conjunction with Spanish entrepreneurs' ambitious mindset presents a ripe opportunity for investment, and to continue driving innovation and collaboration across borders. Discover more about our study and the state of mediatech in Spain by reading the article in Revista Emprendedores España News: https://lnkd.in/ec_y2NyU
