This statement by Yasmine Sherif, Executive Director of Education Cannot Wait (ECW), emphasizes the urgent need for global leaders to prioritize and support the education and well-being of children in Haiti. The use of phrases like “must not turn their backs” conveys a sense of moral obligation and urgency, calling for immediate action from the international community. The inclusion of UNICEF and Education Cannot Wait as key partners underscores the collective effort required to address this issue. This aligns with the mission of both organizations, which focus on providing educational opportunities in emergency and crisis situations. The reference to a link for further information suggests an ongoing or developing initiative that seeks broader public awareness and engagement. By encouraging the audience to learn more, it invites a call to action for those who want to support or contribute to the cause. In relation to **Orphan Kids in Bukavu (ORKID)**, the work being done in Haiti mirrors some of the challenges faced by organizations like ORKID, which also work to support vulnerable children—especially orphans and those with disabilities. This global effort highlights the broader importance of ensuring children in marginalized and crisis-affected regions have access to education, health care, and support. ORKID could potentially explore partnerships or collaborative opportunities with organizations like UNICEF and ECW, as their missions align in terms of providing care and education to vulnerable populations. The statement serves as a reminder that localized efforts, such as those of ORKID in the Democratic Republic of Congo, are part of a larger, global movement to protect and nurture children through education and humanitarian aid. https://lnkd.in/d2tw-fkX

⭐️Reviving a Forgotten Tradition: A day to Share Happiness In Ugandan schools, a forgotten tradition once brought children, parents, and teachers together. Children performed dramas, songs, and poems, as teachers showcased their talents too. As the tradition faltered, schoolyards fell silent. Thanks to the dedicated educators who are trying to revive it now, understanding its impact on children's development is for schools and all stakeholders to take. Let's work together to bring back these joyous occasions, transforming schools into thriving centers of learning, creativity, and unity. By investing in our children and strengthening home-school bonds, we invest in a brighter future for Uganda. 🤝Let us ignite the spark of this beautiful tradition once again! Question: How can we work together to revive this tradition? #Education #Uganda #ChildrenAndYouth #Teachers #SchoolLeaders #ParentsInvolvementInSchool #Unicef #MinistryOfEducationAndSports #Community #Partnership #RevivingTraditions #BuildingTomorrow #EducationForAll

This Thursday we take you back to the #NationalDialogue on #SustainableDevelopmentGoals "Let us make #publicparticipation to be more of a consultative forum, rather than having to involve people on imposed laws and policies" 🔝 Public policies must evolve from top-down mandates to inclusive consultative forums to ensure that no one is left behind. By actively involving diverse communities in the policy-making process, we can create laws and regulations that genuinely reflect the needs and aspirations of all citizens. This approach fosters transparency, accountability, and mutual respect, allowing for a more democratic and equitable society. Instead of imposing policies on the people, a consultative process ensures that everyone has a voice, particularly marginalized and underrepresented groups, thereby promoting a holistic and inclusive development agenda. Let us strive to make public policies a true reflection of collective will and wisdom, ensuring every citizen feels heard and valued. The Day of the African Child 16th June 2024: “Education for All Children in Africa: The Time is Now” The commemoration of the African Child not only reminds us of the legacy of courage and sacrifice left by the young souls who stood up for their rights in Soweto, South Africa in 1976. It also reminds us that education is a fundamental right for every child globally, not a privilege. #WILPF stands by African children and commits to ensuring every child grows up in peace, with protected rights and equal opportunities. We must eliminate obstacles hindering their development and fulfillment. Today, more than ever, we must address poverty, conflict, homelessness, discrimination, and injustice affecting children. Investing in their education, health, and well-being contributes to a fairer and more peaceful future. The objective of this Day concerning the Rights of Children, and Education as the African Union asserts, is to provide an opportunity to reaffirm the commitment to quality, inclusive, and equitable education for all African children. A call to the African States to reinforce their legislative, administrative, budgetary, and judicial measures undertaken to realize the right to education, including early childhood education. #internationaldayofanAfricanchild #AfricanChild #childreneducation #YearOfEducation #Education4All #AfricanCommitteeofExpertsontheRightsandWelfareoftheChild Women's International League for Peace and Freedom - WILPF

On the 16th of June 1976, thousands of students in Soweto, South Africa peacefully demonstrated against low-quality education and a government directive that made Afrikaans a mandatory language of instruction in learning institutions. These unarmed students were met with tear gas and live ammunition. Hundreds of children died that day. In 1991, the Organization of African Unity, now the African Union, instituted the International Day of the African Child in remembrance of the children who died during the Soweto Youth Uprising and to serve as an annual reminder to continually advocate for the rights and well-being of children. Today, let's take some time to review Chapter 1 of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child and reflect on: 1) How far we've come as a continent and respective African Union Member States in fulfilling our obligation to the next generation. 2) What still needs to be done to ensure that the well-being of children all over the continent, and worldwide, is guaranteed. 3) The responsibility we, as individuals, have in protecting and uplifting children regardless of their, or their parents'/guardians', "race, ethnic group, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national and social origin, fortune, birth or other status" (African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, Art. 3). 📜 African Union Charter: https://lnkd.in/dSd8-GsQ 📚 Sources: African Union [AU].
