Today the Insurance Development Forum announced the launch of our #Infrastructure Blueprint (Press release below) aimed at driving greater mobilisation of insurance sector capital and more impactful insurance sector investments into resilient infrastructure in emerging and developing economies. This marks a significant step in the IDF’s journey and speaks to our commitment to implementation and delivering real impact! For context - Coming out of COP28 the need for significant mobilisation of resources to match the scale of financing required to address the #climatecrisis and build #resilience was evident. This fact is not new. The IDF blueprint is one avenue we are leveraging to tackle this issue in a way that is catalytic through offering innovative structures that are replicable, scalable and sustainable, aligned with the IDF's mission and also draw on the significant risk analytical capabilities of the insurance industry in defining the resilience of investments and communities. My appreciation to the incredible leadership of the IDF infrastructure task force Co-Chairs Jean-Baptiste Tricot , Heike Schmitz , Bill Marcoux and Paul Flavier and task force members who have actively helped to shape the blueprint and much more. This would also not have been possible without the support of our Steering Committee members and in particular our Chair Michel Liès and Antoine Gosset-Grainville who brought their vision, persistence and commitment to this venture. Another critical component of our announcement today is the appointment of BlackRock as General Partner to put the blueprint into action through leveraging their significant infrastructure investment and blended finance expertise and deep familiarity with insurance industry investment requirements. I welcome the support of Philipp Hildebrand , Charles Hatami , Olivier Van Eyseren and many others in the BlackRock team who have worked closely with us on the blueprint and fully appreciate the strategic and catalytic importance of this endeavor. Pleased to have the 2024 Australia's Riskscape Report finalised. We developed the first report as a companion to the Major Incidents Report as we were finding the systemic drivers of risk intersecting with climate risk and communities in recovery. This report follows the same drivers of risk, as well as adds additional data. This report highlights that individuals and communities across the country remain under systemic stress. Many areas of the country remain in recovery from disasters. While some systemic factors have eased, e.g. inflation, labour and materials supplies, other stresses remain high, with cost of living still significant (and a significant contributor to poorer wellbeing measures), insurance affordability, and overall wellbeing measures. These stressors hamper individuals' capacity to prepare for, respond to and recover from disaster.  https://lnkd.in/gbuXpB8E

Financial resilience has never been more critical. In a world of rising risk, hazard and shock, the almost unbridled absence of insurance, risk financing and financial resilience of all kinds in the vast majority of the developing world, remains. In this article, I draw out a summary of what UNDP has been doing in this space, building the financial resilience of families, farmers, businesses and countries. Many many takeaways, but personally, the almost-incredible faith in investment without insurance. Value chains are a perfect example of all kinds of investment going into key aspects like better crops, market access, production capacity, logistics and transportation, and much much more. And yet, the farmers who actually produce everything that is needed are more often than not without insurance. This is a very shaky pyramid indeed. Just one example. And if the lack of insurance (the geographic retreat of insurance) will indeed increasingly impact on investment, growth, development and long-term resilience are in doubt all across the developing world. PRESS RELEASE: The Insurance Development Forum (IDF) announced today plans to facilitate insurance sector investments in resilient infrastructure that will enhance the resilience of vulnerable communities in emerging and developing economies to risks from climate change and other natural disasters. Over the last 12 months, the IDF Infrastructure Task Force has developed a blueprint designed as catalyst for driving greater mobilisation and more impactful insurance sector investment in a critical, underserved segment of the infrastructure market. This blueprint seeks to create a pipeline of infrastructure projects that match insurance sector investment requirements. The blueprint, which has been developed by leading IDF insurance company members, is strongly aligned with the purpose of the IDF and its objective to optimise and extend the use of insurance and its related risk management and financial capabilities to build greater resilience to climate change risks and other natural disasters. The IDF is working with BlackRock to put its blueprint into action, leveraging the global asset manager’s significant infrastructure investment and blended finance expertise and familiarity with insurance industry investment requirements. #Climatechange is having more and more impacts, resulting in higher losses, says #SwissRe manager Ivo Menzinger. But there is some wiggle room still: Though speedy adaptation measures, 65 % of future losses can still be avoided cost-effectively, i.e, the benefits of avoided losses in a future that is a linear projection from the present outweighs the investments that would be needed today. That's the good news part, and #insurance and #reinsurance can play here a critical role, with their experience and expertise, together with other stakeholders. #climatechange #climateadaptation

Multiple decisions need to be taken. The initial decision should always focus on the primary purpose and objective of the #subsidy as this then has implications for all following decisions. Decisions include: Purpose, eligibility, allocation, amount/share, duration, conditions.
