"Look at most org charts. Can you see a teacher among the fluff?" Sam Jacob as CEO of Collarts (Australian College of the Arts) has a rich history in leadership among multiple global public, private and VET institutions including London South Bank University, Charles Darwin University, Deakin University, Monash University and Torrens University Australia Their diversity reflects how different institutions serve the range of learner needs as we seek to change more future lives for good. In this episode Sam talks with Professor Christy Collis of HERDSA Higher Education Research Society of Australasia and I, illustrating how most people in public universities have little understanding of private universities or the VET sector and how both work. What is clear, as we all develop better sectoral literacy and celebrate the richness of our sector ecology, is that diversity is good. What emerges is that all providers will only be student-centric if they are teacher-centric. This is an episode to cut through the fluff in the system from two great sector activists who will be part of a fluff free panel on sectoral diversity at the HEDx conference at UQ on October 31st with details of that in the comments.

Last week, USFQ students came to NY to learn about social and economic development issues that WE face, and how community-based organizations like Ithaca Murals, the History Center of Tompkins County, the Southside Community Center Ithaca, the Learning Farm, and Open Doors English are addressing them. In BOTH the U.S. and Ecuador-based parts of this program we're attempting to surface: 1) social and economic challenges faced by our respective LOCAL communities * because it's easy to be seduced by other people's problems (Courtney Martin, 2016), especially within short-term study abroad programs 2) how these challenges are connected to GLOBAL systems * because it's easy to ignore how unequal relations of power on a global scale manifest locally 3) how community-based organizations are addressing these issues and catalyzing change * because place-based knowledge and local leaders offer so much hope! On Saturday our combined group of 13 Cornell students and 10 students from Universidad San Francisco de Quito traveled together to Ecuador to continue this learning journey!

Geography perspective on home and how it intertwines with social and economic developments, including changes in law and legislation.

After one year at Northeastern, it’s unbelievable how much I have accomplished and grown since my first month. These are the things I learned not in any particular order: - Learned the difference between the grants and their numbering. - Learned and submitted the yearly RPPR for our T32 program early. - Learned and submitted the annual report early to our department. - Learned more about research administration. - Learned more about PFAS and environmental health both on a national and international scale. - Learned how to update and maintain our new website. - Learned how to help students on parental leave. - Learned how to effectively use my benefits at NU. - Participated in a department wide kickball tournament. - Went to my first NCURA conference - Connected more with other staff, faculty, coop students, postdocs, and predocs. - Volunteered at NU commencement 👩🏾🎓 - Participated in Culture Day 🥘 This is just the tip of the iceberg!

Clarity is beautiful, but speed in the wrong direction is pointless. It's difficult to navigate life with blurry vision just like it's difficult to drive with blurry vision, and we can't assume clarity when it's absent. While there are many things we need to be clear about, clarity of purpose is superintendent. It shapes the trajectory of everything else. I had the privilege of speaking with the Final Year Brethren (FYB) of the Winners Campus Fellowship at the University of Lagos, UNILAG on 'Clarity for the Next Chapter of Life.' It's always inspiring to see young adults grow in clarity early. It was awesome connecting with Ayo David, Ore, the incoming Coordinator, Omolade and the FYB committee chair, Oreoluwa. Age is not just a number. The time you are clear about where you're going matters. 'Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.' The quest for clarity is indeed a wise decision. Ultimately, clarity grows as you go. Keep seeking, keep growing, keep going. Are you also searching for clarity? It has been so much fun helping to pull this webinar series together to showcase Massey science for the wider public and future students.
