2024: A Year of Growth Through Adversity 2024 was a year of intense highs and lows, a true rollercoaster ride. Being a mother of two,a journey filled with both immense joy and unexpected challenges, has been the most rewarding role I've ever embraced. The unconditional love, the joy of watching my daughters grow, the simple moments of pure bliss – these are treasures beyond measure. Freelancing, a new venture for me, has been a steep learning curve. The pressure to succeed, the constant need to adapt, and the struggle to land my first client have been a daily reality. Juggling the demands of freelancing with the responsibilities of motherhood often felt overwhelming. I frequently questioned my abilities and wondered if I was cut out for this entrepreneurial path. The loss of my father this year cast a long shadow over everything. Witnessing his courageous battle with illness, feeling helpless to ease his pain, was excruciating. Grief, a relentless tide, washed over me, leaving me feeling adrift and lost. Guilt gnawed at me, questioning my actions, wondering if I could have done more. In those darkest moments, when despair threatened to consume me, I found solace in my faith in Allah. الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَلَى كُلِّ حَالٍ – these words became my mantra, a lifeline in the storm. I decided to return to education after a seven-year break in a post graduation program, a daunting step towards rediscovering myself and pursuing my own intellectual and professional growth. This year has been a powerful reminder of the importance of resilience, self-compassion, and the unwavering support of my faith. As a college student stepping into freelancing and client work, I learned some valuable lessons—often the hard way. Here are the key mistakes I made, and what they taught me: Overcommitting Too Early Excited to prove myself, I said “yes” to too many projects. The result? Burnout and rushed work. 👉 Lesson: Quality beats quantity. It’s better to deliver great results for fewer clients than to stretch yourself thin. Poor Time Management Balancing college and freelancing was tough. I tried multitasking, but it only led to missed deadlines and stress. 👉 Lesson: Block time for focused work and stick to a schedule. Time management tools like Google Calendar or Trello can be lifesavers. Communication Gaps with Clients I assumed clients understood technical terms and processes, but this often led to misaligned expectations. 👉 Lesson: Always over-communicate. Use simple language, confirm expectations, and document everything. Neglecting Myself Late-night meetings, poor sleep, and skipping breaks eventually took a toll on my health. 👉 Lesson: Prioritize self-care. Yes, Trapped in a lifeless mind and body ☠️ We’re on LinkedIn, where it’s all about hustle, productivity, growth tips, and self-improvement, right? 𝙎𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙮, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙞𝙨𝙣’𝙩 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩. It’s a reflection on my last 4 years and maybe, just maybe, 𝙞𝙩’𝙡𝙡 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙠 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙝. I started, like many, juggling college and internships, launching startups, freelancing, consulting - hustling hard. I made my share of mistakes, learned from them, and thought, why not share those lessons with you? 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙢𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙨𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙥𝙨 𝙄 𝙛𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤. Last week, I came across a Swiggy CEO Rohit Kapoor video. He questioned the hustle at all costs mindset that makes us forget the people and moments that truly matter. And it hit hard. Then, the tragic news of a young CA girl passing due to work pressure broke my heart. 𝙃𝙚𝙧 𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙢𝙨, 𝙨𝙖𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙨, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 - 𝙜𝙤𝙣𝙚. For what? For whom? Her company? No. The loss was only hers and her loved ones. Here’s what I’ve learned: 𝙇𝙞𝙛𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙣 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 : Yes, we all need the paycheck, but don’t let your whole life revolve around it. On your deathbed, you won’t wish you worked more. You’ll wish you spent more time with loved ones, chased your passions, and lived for You. 𝙋𝙧𝙞𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙯𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝 : Building companies, freelancing, and even offering free services to those who didn’t value them, I sacrificed my health. Now I know better. Without your health- mental and physical - nothing else truly matters. Trust me, the grind can wait. 𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙝 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙧𝙚𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙥𝙨 : Make time for your parents, partner, kids, and close friends. Don’t let work steal away those moments. Say “No” after work hours. The project will still be there tomorrow, but the chance to be present in their lives might not.
