In our pursuit of progress, we often overlook the silent wisdom of nature. 'A River Called Titas' serves as a poignant reminder of the delicate balance between urban development and environmental preservation. As professionals, how can we incorporate this awareness into our work and decision-making processes? Let's discuss strategies for sustainable urban planning and environmental conservation in our industries. #SustainableDevelopment #UrbanPlanning #EnvironmentalLeadership

【Measuring and Improving Environmental Justice in the Urban Outdoors】 Full article: https://lnkd.in/gxzTAtT7 (Authored by Matthew Bingham, et al., from Veritas Economics (USA), etc.) #Outdoor_recreation opportunities are critical for urban community wellbeing and a relative lack of them in disadvantaged communities is an important #environmental_justice concern. This study presents a comprehensive and flexible approach for quantitatively evaluating environmental justice in the provision of spatially distributed public goods, and uses the approach to assess baseline spatial aspects of environmental justice in Hudson County, New Jersey and how it changes with the creation of a new park. #Urban

Recent water infrastructure emergencies in Atlanta underscore the growing concern I’ve had that we’re not doing enough to integrate with the ecological systems we’re part of in urban design and planning. I’m hoping my sustainability colleagues out there can share some inspiration. I am encouraged to see that LEED v5 seems to be shifting toward a greater emphasis on preservation and restoration. I’m proud that Georgia is in the top five U.S. states for number of LEED buildings; however, we need to push hard on innovation for watershed health and resilience which is critical for climate resilience as well. In Metro Atlanta, we have an amazing system of colleges and universities that should be engaged to the fullest in defining problems and creating integrated solutions for ecological resilience in the context of cities. And we need to stop settling for less in how our communities get built.

It is not idealistic, emotional, unrealistic, hysterical, funding-motivated, hand-out seeking, lazy, irresponsible, immoral or attention-craving to envision, and call for, a world in the near term where people and other living things are free from ecological destruction. It's 2024, we are humanity and we've accomplished many amazing things in the last 100,000 years. If you disagree, where do you see human and planetary ecological health headed in the next 100 years? Do you plan on habitations in detoxification/cooling shelters; Mars colonization; or do you think everything will just be fine if governments let businesses do their thing? #environmentaljustice #wastemanagement #pfas #wastewater #climateaction #recycling #petrochemicals #WorldEnvironmentDay
Happy #WorldEnvironmentDay! At WE ACT we believe that #environmentaljustice is at the center of how we create a thriving world for all. #1 of the Environmental Justice Principles affirms the sacredness of Mother Earth, ecological unity and the interdependence of all species, and the right to be free from ecological destruction. How do you practice this principle in your life and work? Tell us in the comments below + share!

Is Florida's environmental future at a tipping point? As Governor Ron DeSantis proposes a budget that requests authority over federal funds for Everglades restoration, we must consider the implications for our ecosystems. The call for localized management of these vital funds could potentially accelerate restoration efforts. However, it raises questions about the state’s commitment to sustainable practices and its ability to balance development with environmental protection. Critics argue that while ambitious plans are on the table, Florida's ecosystems are struggling. Water pollution and habitat loss continue to jeopardize the natural beauty that makes our state unique. As real estate professionals, we must recognize that the health of our environment directly impacts property values and the desirability of our communities. Investing in restoration is not just an ecological imperative; it’s a crucial economic strategy. By prioritizing our natural resources, we can ensure that Florida remains a sought-after destination for generations to come. Let’s advocate for responsible growth that honors both our environment and our communities. #EvergladesRestoration #FloridaEnvironment #SustainableGrowth #RealEstateImpact #CommunityAdvocacy #FloridaLife

Webinar description: "While progress has been made in integrating environmental justice into restoration, improvements can still be made. To better address the needs of underserved and vulnerable populations when making restoration decisions, we can integrate the sociological concept of the human’s hierarchy of needs and the First Nations concept of cultural perpetuity. Utilizing this framework will help conservationists simultaneously accomplish successful and enduring restoration related activities, achieve environmental justice goals, and further development of sustainable society."
Welcome! You are invited to join a webinar: Restoration can further equality: integrating environmental justice, the human hierarchy of needs, and the breath of life into restoration.. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the webinar.
