Today, I studied the GM/ID methodology for the common source amplifier. This approach explains the relationship between transconductance over drain current (Gm/Id) and normalized drain current [Id(W/L)], which is crucial for assessing circuit performance. By using this methodology, we can identify the region of operation and calculate device dimensions across all regions of a MOS transistor.
To evaluate the transistor's performance, we examine the maximum frequency at which the transistor remains functional as an amplifier, the gain indicating the efficiency of converting current into transconductance, and the transconductance efficiency.
