Elevated PFAS levels threaten ski slopes in the Austrian Alps Recent findings from the James Hutton Institute and the University of Graz have revealed alarming levels of PFAS in soil, particularly at popular ski resorts in the Austrian Alps. The prevalence of these dangerous "forever chemicals" on ski slopes is largely attributed to the widespread use of ski and snowboard waxes containing PFAS compounds. These chemicals, which are persistent in nature, not only threaten human health, but also endanger ecosystems by accumulating in the environment, particularly in groundwater reservoirs. The ubiquity of PFAS contamination underscores the urgent need for action to curb their spread. The introduction of PFAS-free waxes for winter sports is a promising part of the solution. In addition, I believe the ultimate remedy lies in pioneering approaches to bioremediate PFAS, such as the efforts of the start-up company ASPIDIA. https://lnkd.in/dW9Nat2x #pfas #foreverchemicals #cleanwater #bioremediation #enzymes #health
