"It's the same chemistry as what nature does, only 99,000 times faster." The ocean has a powerful ability to absorb and sequester carbon, but this natural cycle was not designed to keep up with the current rate of emissions. What if technology could give our largest carbon sink a helping hand? 🌊 Equatic.tech have found a way to turbocharge the ocean's CO2 storage capacity. Using a technique called electrolysis, they pass an electric current through seawater, enhancing its ability to draw down carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and permanently lock it away. This innovative approach also generates clean hydrogen. Since we filmed with Equatic back in April, the company has gone from strength to strength. They were named a finalist for The Earthshot Prize 2024, and last week, founder Gaurav N. Sant was recognised on the Time100 Climate list of business leaders driving a sustainable future. 🔗 Do you want to learn more about this game changing carbon dioxide removal method? 🌍 Day 2 at the Climate Action Innovation Zone during COP29 🌍 Day 2 was a continuation of important discussions, mixed with some fun from my colleagues Alyona Zahidova, Nargis Hasanova, and Colin Elcoate. We were honored by a visit to our stand by Sudip Ranjan Basu, who had just finished moderating a panel discussion on supply chains, circular economies and sustainability transitions at the Sustainable Innovation Forum. Thank you, Sudip, for bringing your positive aurora to our stand and sharing insights on some UN sustainability programmes! 🌟 Incidentally, LOOP technology that supports circular economies was relevant to the panel discussion. We had the opportunity to discuss how Levidian and Rapid Solutions LTD are supporting the circular economy by utilising LOOP technology. This technology transforms methane into valuable products like clean hydrogen and high-quality graphene. Here’s how it works: 1. Carbon Capture: Creating commercial value through pre-combustion capture. 💡 2. Carbon Prevention: Reducing CO2 emissions by providing a viable hydrogen alternative to fossil fuels. 🌱 3. Carbon Utilisation: Enhancing the performance & efficiency of products using high-quality sustainable carbon. ⚙️ Exciting times ahead as we continue to showcase LOOP technology and Graphene applications! 🌱💡 #COP29 #ClimateAction #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #RapidSolutionsLtd #Levidian #Graphene #CleanHydrogen #CarbonCapture #CCUS

The Importance of Technology Near Day Zero: Life in our world depends greatly on water. Since ancient times, humanity has sought to settle near sources of water, recognized for its vital importance both for our own existence and for all living beings that make up our ecosystem. Today, we live in a 21st-century society that is fortunate to have adequate infrastructure for the distribution of clean water. However, this privilege was not always present in human history. Our ancestors faced the arduous task of collecting, storing, and distributing water much more rudimentarily, requiring considerable physical effort and facing numerous challenges for its storage and transportation. Despite the accessibility of clean water today, human activity has severely disrupted water resource management, leading us to a critical point where we face the possibility of reaching the dreaded "day zero". "Day zero" is an expression that refers to the moment when a city or region runs out of clean water due to extreme scarcity. This phenomenon, which is affecting various parts of the world, is due to increased demand and the effects of climate change. However, technology offers a glimmer of hope in this challenging landscape. Humanity's ability to solve complex problems through the use of technology is undeniable. The challenge of day zero should be a wake-up call to enact legislation, infrastructure, and financial resources aimed at researching and developing sustainable solutions that allow us to reverse the negative impacts we have generated on our environment. At Bluewire, we are dedicated to using technology innovatively to address the challenges of the modern world. We are here to help you face your challenges with personalized and effective solutions. When we tell potential customers that the PowerSkid uses second life batteries, one key question is around what impact that has. It’s not hard to imagine that a circular business model can reduce the use of both battery materials (most of which is mined) and the energy used to make the system, but can we quantify this? Benedikte Wrålsen & Reyn O’Born compared resource utilisation between new and second life battery systems, and found that business models “which use second life batteries correspond to 16% (for global warming potential) of manufacturing a new battery” [citation at the bottom]. The analysis is detailed and worth reading, and seems very relevant to the Dumarey Green Power business model. Typically these PowerSkids are then deployed to cut energy and fuel use, with lower embedded emissions meaning a quicker environmental breakeven point. If you have other studies on second life batteries that I should read, please paste them in the comments. Wrålsen, B. and O’Born, R. (2023). Use of life cycle assessment to evaluate circular economy business models in the case of Li-ion battery remanufacturing.
