You still have to mass apply, because when companies ask you if you have applied yet in the portal and you say no then you have to start from scratch. It’s a lot of work I know and it sucks, but you got to do it. In 2025 mark my words at the rate AI is moving you will all by interviewing with holograms. I am not joking at all. There will be AI recruiting software that will sort, sift, screen (oh yes interview you), and schedule the second round interview. This is why I am telling everybody to land this job as soon as possible and to start a brand (more on that later), but for now you need to deliver a more impactful message to pitch your resume. Ultimately, the role was put on hold. Don't hire Engineering Managers unless: Your goal is to... - help team find meaning in their work - create a culture of ownership and accountability - build a sustainable culture of continuous delivery - help engineers grow skills and their career And Senior Leadership truly believes in - Growth of engineers - Autonomy at all levels - Distributed Decision Making - Information Democracy Did I miss anything?

There are two type of recruiters in tech. There are internal recruiters who work in house and external recruiters at agency who are paid a commission by the company to staff an extremely urgent role. 80% of the positions in tech haven’t even been posted yet, because everybody procrastinates doing work they and there’s nothing a refuting hates more than posting up jobs. Yuck, just writing this out brings back such painful memories. As an Engineering Manager, hiring is a crucial responsibility. Understanding the organization's roadmap and periodically assessing the team's bandwidth are essential to give the engineering team a load expectation for the near future. Planning is necessary to avoid overloading our engineers. When I interview an engineer to join my team, I look for specific signals that indicate they are a good fit: - Skills (top priority, no compromise, not aggressive on specific programming languages) - Reliability (delivering on complex, high-priority items) - Teachability (ability to accept feedback and quickly learn new domains) - Learning pattern (proactivity in learning the ecosystem and technology) - Collaboration (ability to collaborate within and across teams) - Manage ambiguity (effectiveness in managing unclear requirements) - Get things done attitude with accountability. I direct my questions in a way that explains the specific situation the candidate has faced as it holds more weightage than abstract project-level responses.
