I've been working with W21C (a research and innovation initiative in UCalgary) for the last year and put together some stories last summer for their annual report. Did you know that X-rays were first discovered on November 8th, (today) 1895 by German physicist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen? Do you think he realized back then how important his discovery would be for healthcare? Sometimes I like to sit and think about how far science, technology and medicine have progressed in the last 20, 50, 100 or more years. Where would we be without these discoveries? It's amazing to think that things we take advantage of today, were once novel and exciting discoveries. Maybe you'll discover something that people will be talking about as part of their day-to-day life in 100+ years.

Achieving a more rapid time to market, however, can be complicated by lengthy, costly product development cycles; changes in the labor market and talent acquisition strategies; and the highly-regulated nature of this industry. Successful life science organizations must ensure that every step along the product development continuum is carried out as efficiently and effectively as possible, including the development and commissioning of laboratory infrastructure. In this paper, we explore how smart life science technologies combine with digitalization and data-driven services to optimize project timelines, scale up production, support certification efforts, and take products to market rapidly—without compromising on product / research quality or safety.
