Disruption? Yes. Extinction? No. This article produces a lot of good discussion points. It makes me think a lot as well. In short, I believe that the industry of management consulting is also in for a disruption in the age of AI. But I don’t think it would go away and become extinct. In fact, I think it is a mistake for these management consulting firms to fire the junior consultants and replace them with AI. Because all partners (experienced consultants) started as junior consultants! Removing junior consultant jobs is like removing future partners! In addition, while it is true that at the junior level, the emphasis is on the ability to analyse data and perform critical thinking tasks. But at the senior level, I think the real values of consultants are in stakeholder management, relationships and resource management. These are the areas that AI would not be able to replace in the foreseeable future. Another point worth thinking is this. With AI, I think a lot more senior consultants will leave the big management consulting firms to set up their own boutique firms. Because these more senior consultants know their real values (see above) and are above to leverage on AI to do most of the “number crunching” or lower level work. Now, more importantly for all of you is this. So if AI can disrupt even the management consulting industry, what would it do to your industry. And are you prepared for these disruptions? As they say “AI Will Not Replace You, But The Person Using AI Will”. I am sure management consulting is going to be no different. AI surely is a great enabler but not replacement of human intelligence Tong-Hong Beck (麦东宏)

I think the last disruption is for the government. Imagine one day the UU , law can be converted to smart legal contract and executed and monitor by AI agent. While citizens become the human validator. But yes let's start with consulting:-)
