It’s Friday 🕺
And another chapter of my life with #davefromthepub
So, you’re gearing up for a move in the coming weeks or months , and you’re tempted to save a few quid on packing materials.
You think a packing quote will be too expensive and you saw some boxes advertised on marketplace or that your local supermarket have some they’ve chucked ‘out the back’
Let’s get real for a minute! Using the right packing materials could save you from a world of pain (and a smashed lamp or two). But of course, #davefromthepub has his own opinion…
“Nah, mate. It’s all the same. Doesn’t matter if it’s a box from Aldi or some fancy ‘removals grade’ stuff. Just chuck it in and wedge it with towels or socks. Good to go!”
Dave, Dave, Dave… no wonder the public can seem confused.
See, those thin, soggy-bottomed boxes might be okay for cereal, but they won’t protect your 65” TV when it’s loaded into the truck.
And socks? Less said about them, the better mate. They might keep your feet warm, but they’re not protecting your grandmother’s fine china, especially with holes in them 👀😂
Professional-grade packing materials are expensive because they’re designed for moving, not just storage.
Proper boxes, padding, and bubble wrap are built to protect fragile items from bumps and breaks. They’re stronger, they stack better, and—most importantly—they keep your valuables safe.
And let’s not forget packing properly is an art. It’s not about shoving everything into random boxes, it’s about order, labeling, and placement of everything with thought, consideration and care.
And trust me, you don’t want to attempt it yourself.
Dave’s ‘van’ will handle your furniture about as well as his advice handles logic. Think you can just throw your dining room table and expensive art collection in there? Good luck when it gets scratched, chipped, or—surprise!—it rains, and Dave didn’t cover anything… I’ve seen it all before.
But hey, at least your socks might be okay. 👀😂
For those in the removals business, this goes for you too.
Offering high-quality packing services is not just an add-on—it’s a way to build trust with your customers. When they see you care enough to use the best materials, it sets you apart from the “Daves” of the world. And trust me, they’ll remember it when their move goes smoothly.
So, if you’re thinking of going the DIY route or you’re a removals company looking to up your game, remember: packing matters. Proper packing protects your reputation—and the client’s dining table that you don’t want doing a balancing act in the back of a van.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to the pub. I’ve got to explain to Dave why using a bin bag isn’t a packing strategy! 😂🍻
