Albert Heijn just massively amped up its impact!💯🥳 The Dutch supermarket chain has committed to sourcing cocoa via Tony’s Open Chain for all (yes, all!) of its own brand products. Back in 2019, Albert Heijn was the first to join our fight to end exploitation in cocoa, committing to using Tony’s Open Chain cocoa for all of their Delicata chocolate bars. And now, they’re cranking up the volume.. 📈 Within the next 3 years, all cocoa in Albert Heijn’s products – from chocolate bars to chocolate sprinkles – will be sourced through Tony’s Open Chain, which will almost triple (!!) the number of beans they buy from our partner co-ops. 🎉 This means that all of their cocoa will be sourced responsibly, according to our 5 Sourcing Principles. ✅ They include paying farmers a higher price long-term and tracing every bean to drive down child labor + prevent deforestation. Albert Heijn’s the first retailer to source all cocoa via Tony’s Open Chain – and we sure hope it inspires others to do the same. 🤝 Sooo… Who’s next?! 👀 #TonysOpenChain #AlbertHeijn #responsiblesourcing #fairtrade #cocoa #chocolate #endingexploitation
Great initiative! Nice opportunity to extend the Open Chain program to your #dairy ingredients for which your 5 sourcing principles are also highly relevant! Interfood Group can help you with #responsiblesourcing your #dairy ingredients!
Congratulations TEAM TONY'S, this is (again) a major breakthrough! Please continue your mission and let us assist with the operational matters, as we have supported you in this for the past five years."
Hopefully they will start supporting 100% organic and biodynamic too and be the first supermaket chain in HOlland to do so 👏
Amazing news! But does this mean the chocolate will no longer be gluten-free? I'm sad that Tony's Chocolonely isn't considering keeping its products allergen-free. I really support AH's brand for its strong focus on celiacs and their needs (logo, at 20ppm) . Maybe it's time for Tony's to follow suit, as more and more people are being diagnosed with allergies and intolerances.
Was für ein fantastischer Schritt, Albert Heijn & Tony's Chocolonely! Wir hoffen und erwarten, dass nun auch deutsche Supermärkte diesem Beispiel folgen werden. 👏
Fantastic news! Keep up the good work 🥰
I first discovered this chocolate when I was in Amsterdam about 6 years ago. I was super excited to find it in Australia when I returned. It’s my go to chocolate now. Nothing else tastes as good. And now the taste is even sweeter knowing it’s ethically sourced. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Wow, Tony's Chocolonely, this is a massive step forward in your mission to revolutionise the chocolate industry!
And we all know why, helping them on good quality with all consumers love to buy, whilst getting the best help in insight for Value Chain data for CSRD as well as preparing for CSDDD 👌

3moThis is a big deal. I am personally thrilled. Maybe nice to know: I only buy Tony Choco. Don’t even bother looking at other brands. Been doing this for years now. How this came to be? I was at a presentation in Amsterdam years ago where Teun van de Keuken told us about Tony Chocolonely’s story and mission. I’ve never looked back since then. I’m one consumer but I know I can make a difference every time I buy a bar for myself, friends or clients. It also helps that the chocolate is both delicious and fun to eat. Making jokes about who get’s the bigger piece, or how much is too much, never ceases to entertain. My husband and I have loads of little moments of fun at home with that. It makes it of course really easy that I can pick up my bars at my local Albert Heijn while doing the rest of my groceries. Way to go!✨✨
