Since 1980, 1.4 million fewer households in England have access to social housing, highlighting a growing crisis in affordable housing. The shrinking availability of social housing means more individuals and families are being pushed into unstable or unaffordable living situations. This gap has only widened, creating a pressing need to support initiatives that bridge the divide between social housing and the private rental market. For tenants, mobile home parks are a better option than apartments… Forget the sigma for a second… A tenant in a mobile home park has: -             A yard -             No shared walls with neighbors -             Only have to pay space rent (which is usually less than half of apartment rent) -             There is a sense of community within the park So if you really think about living in a mobile home park, there are a lot of benefits compared to living in an apartment. Mobile home parks are a great source of affordable housing and most provide a great place to live.

Historically Black neighborhoods and long-standing communities are feeling the brunt of Greenville's revitalization. Just a decade ago, homes were far more affordable, selling for a fraction of today's prices. Now, these same homes are selling for nearly four times what they used to. Everyone keeps talking about ‘affordable housing’ solutions based on some form of subsidised rental arrangement whether directly through government or via a Housing Association for those stuck in the rent cycle. What I think we’re not having enough of a discussion about, is what are we doing for a good, honest, hard working couple with or without young children, who want to buy a place that’s close enough to their family and existing community. Based on what I can see, we have a two fold problem - delivery prices have gone up massively and people can’t afford to borrow as much in higher (dare I say it more normal) interest rate environment. What that means at a general level, for anything within 10kms of the Melbourne cbd, a 1-bedroom apartment must cost around $750k, a 2-bedroom costs more than $1m to deliver and a 3 bedroom apartment has to cost more than $1.6m. Those prices only work in a handful of subrbs - the absolute top tier, crème della creme, but can’t be sustained at mass on other good quality suburbs. So if the only way to make the projects stack up is to see prices go up, but yet people can’t afford the prices, don’t we have a huuuge problem!

LA City Planning wants to know where you want to see more affordable housing. Can multifamily developments be integrated into R1 zones in LA? I think so. See the survey link below. In a surprising (or maybe not so surprising) move, @Planning4LA has decided that: - single-family zoned land is not being considered eligible for the Affordable Housing Overlay incentives AND - single-family zoned sites are not being considered in the expansion of the TOC Affordable Housing Incentive This will limit the geographic areas for new housing re-zoning programs.
