“For enterprises, AI is a smoldering platform, not a burning one.” Phil Fersht CEO and Founder of HFS Research. His most recent survey shows that only 5 percent of enterprises have scaled generative AI solutions. Some of my other favorite takeaways from the HFS Spring Summit: The Great Enterprise Disruption: Phil always starts off an HSF Summit with the big picture, summarizing the history of global enterprises from 1995 to the Generative Enterprise of today. “AI will not threaten your job, but a human who uses AI will.” Sandeep Dadlani, Chief Digital & Technology Officer at UnitedHealth Group is a powerful change agent that uses competitions judged by BUSINESS LEADERS to drive innovation exploration and adoption. Rohan Kulkarni, Practice Lead at HSF has realistic and cost-effective ways for pivoting from sick-care to health and care. It’s a human-centric approach that every American will value.  During Rohan's presentation, Frank Ostroff, who helped the Obama administration with the diffusion of electronic health records, advised companies to begin massive innovation programs with the MOST CHANGE-READY part of an organization. I love that advice! Amy Gallo, best selling author of Getting Along: How to Work with Anyone (Even Difficult People) gave us great advice on how to deal with pessimists at work: Assign them the role of pointing out risks so the conversation can progress to risk mitigation. On partnering, the FTE model still dominates because it’s hard for clients to share benefits with suppliers when they don’t share the same risks. One client said, “If we fail, I lose my job and the business suffers, but the supplier still gets paid.” Besides the provocative content, HFS Summits facilitate great networking. The report, dated September 2024, presents five key principles for leveraging AI to support inclusive development: 🔰 Connectivity and Accessibility: Effective #AI implementation requires infrastructure that ensures all populations, especially the marginalized, have meaningful access to technology. 🔰 Local Ownership: Empowering local communities to tailor AI solutions to their unique needs fosters sustainable outcomes and inclusive growth. 🔰 Confidence, Trust, and Transparency: AI must be developed and deployed with ethical considerations to prevent biases and protect vulnerable populations. 🔰 Enabling Environment: Policies and regulations that promote responsible AI innovation and protect data privacy are essential. 🔰 Strategic Collaboration: Partnerships among governments, the private sector, and civil society are crucial for maximizing AI's potential for inclusive development. The report highlights that while AI has the power to accelerate progress towards the SDGs, it must be approached with caution to avoid exacerbating existing inequalities. A survey of over a thousand international development professionals revealed that half of the respondents' organizations have adopted AI tools to varying degrees, with North America and Europe showing the highest familiarity and usage rates. The survey also found that AI is perceived to have the greatest potential impact on SDGs related to industry, innovation, infrastructure, health, and education. However, there is a divide in opinions on whether AI can do more good than harm, with perceptions differing across geographies and gender. The document emphasizes the need for digital #literacy and #skills development to fully harness AI's capabilities. It also stresses the importance of addressing the digital divide and ensuring that AI solutions are accessible to all, including through assistive technologies for persons with disabilities. The report includes case studies demonstrating how organizations like Microsoft, Technovation, and ServiceNow are collaborating with international entities to bridge the digital divide, empower local innovators, and support nonprofits in leveraging AI for social good. In conclusion, the report calls for a collective effort to ensure AI is used responsibly and inclusively to achieve the SDGs, leaving no one behind. It suggests actions for international organizations, the private sector, civil society, and #governments to foster collaboration, ethical AI development, and capacity building.
