As my son’s 11th birthday is coming up, here are 11 pieces of advice for him that I hope would resonate with you, too: 1. There’s a way out of every problem. You must be able to know when it’s time to ask someone for help. 2. Even the worst day cannot last more than 24 hours. 3. Advertising is not for real. No product will make one’s life perfect or guarantee happiness. The only one who can decide on what makes you happy is YOU. 4. Every word we speak affects others. With unkind words, less is more. With uplifting words, more is more. 5. You’re writing your own story every day. How do you want to be remembered? 6. Hand-write thank you notes. This gesture means you appreciate the person enough to sit down and write. 7. Look at the bright light. Squint if needed. 8. Always be connected with your life’s purpose, it’s usually one that makes you feel blissfully alive. 9. Make sure you’re never the reason someone feels bad. 10. Hang in there. Have faith that you’re on your way to better days. 11. Take a break. You can get back to the real world later. Hazel Rodriguez Nico Salinas

What’s your most cherished birthday memory? 🎂. Today, as I celebrate my birthday, I’m reflecting on the passage of time and the journeys that have shaped me. One vivid memory is from my 19th birthday, 28 years ago, when I sailed on a majestic tall ship called the “Malcolm Miller” (the one in this painting which is still on my wall!) Standing 100 feet up in the rigging, manning the sails, and trying not to look down as we sailed into ports around the Canary Islands was both exhilarating and terrifying! That experience taught me that “nothing is difficult; it’s just unfamiliar.” As babies, everything is new, yet our innate self-belief propels us to crawl, walk, and talk. This natural confidence enables us to make the unfamiliar familiar, whether it’s sailing a tall ship at 19 or facing new challenges today. 😳I couldn’t have imagined it at the time - but all these years later in my talks on confidence - I often use the metaphor of how life is like how we might S.A.I.L. a ship! ⛵️S – Set Your Course: When you know what you want and focus on it, you are inevitably drawn towards taking the steps to achieve it. ⛵️A – Accept the Weather: Everything comes and goes just like the weather - and we can’t control external circumstances - but we can adjust our sails and control how we respond. ⛵️I – Invest in Your Ship: Our bodies and minds are the “ship” we travel in. Be mindful of who and what you allow on board, ensuring they sustain, energize, and support you. ⛵️L – Let Go of the Anchor: Identify thoughts, people, or choices that drag you down, such as self-criticism or limiting beliefs, and choose to release them. 🙏🎉🎂Thank you all for the heartfelt birthday messages. Your support and kindness means the world to me!

The Evolution of Christmas Magic 🎄 My wife & I evolved into our own form of holiday magic. Gone are the days of anxious gift-guessing & polite smiles over well-intentioned but slightly-off presents. Instead, we've embraced what we call "𝙋𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙂𝙞𝙛𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜." It started innocently enough after missing the mark years ago. I could tell my wife didn't love what I picked out so the next year I was ready & said early. I want to make sure your "big gift" is special this year so why don't you pick it out & I will get it & wrap it for you so you get exactly what you want. She did and guess what happened? 𝙎𝙝𝙚 𝙂𝙤𝙩 𝙀𝙭𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙡𝙮 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙎𝙝𝙚 𝙒𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙙! Why hadn't we thought of this sooner? That one gift grew to almost every gift over the years & now our December group chat includes screenshots of exact items, complete with color preferences, size specifications, & links to purchase. Some might say we've lost the element of surprise, but we've gained something better: the joy of giving each other exactly what makes our eyes light up. This Christmas we'll sit & exchange perfectly selected gifts, knowing the real magic isn't in the surprise – it's in the love behind listening to what your partner truly wants. Sometimes the best traditions are ones you create together. #ChristmasTraditions #ModernLove #MarriageWisdom
