Mixed-Case Palletizing. The ultimate goal for so many warehouse leaders. However, it’s just not as simple as it sounds. So, in addition to investment and operating costs, here are 21 things to consider when evaluating a robotic mixed-case palletizing system and determining if it is the right one for your operation. *Robot, Infeed, and Outfeed* 1. Required throughput. (cases per hour, pallet changeout, order changeover) 2. Order cycle time and the number of orders and pallets that must be built at the same time to reach trailer dispatches. 3. Requirements to support route-stop delivery, processing windows, and trailer loading methods. 4. Exception handling and out-of-sequencing staging allowances *End Effector, Robot Controls, and Vision* 5. The population and variability of case characteristics (dimensions, weights, packaging material, form factor, stackability) 6. Fragility of product and rigidity / sturdiness of cases/packages. 7. Package coloration and the presence of reflective materials 8. Operating climate and conditions *Upper-Level Software* 9. Customer load building rules and potential chargebacks. (heavy to light, contiguous by category, labels facing out, etc.) 10. Operational requirements for optimal pallet cube and load stability. 11. SKU fluidity across the plan horizon. 12. The process of adding out-of-scope cases to pallet loads before they are shipped. 13. Integration to existing systems *Buffer / Sequencer* 14. The capability of upstream operations, processes, and mechanical systems to sustain flow to all palletizing cells. 15. The need for sequencing due to case variation and load build complexity. *Supporting Automation (pallet dispensers, stretch wrappers, label applicators, etc.) * 16. The methods used to control and maintain load stability until it can be secured by wrapping, etc. 17. The requirements for manifesting pallet contents and attaching an LPN. 18. The methods/equipment used and cycle time to introduce empty pallets and exit of complete pallets and their impact to CPH. *ROI / Investment* 19. Space utilization 20. Hours of operation and asset utilization 21. Reliability and maintenance As you may have noticed, mixed-case palletizing includes a lot more than just the robot and vision systems. While vision, machine learning, and load building intelligence have dug in and delivered great results, it's often all of the supportive systems and the operational requirements that are holding back a much faster and broader adoption rate. Often, the ROI sweet spot falls in the 80/20. Automate the 80%. Hopefully, this list provides you with 21 basics to think about as you start your automation journey towards robotic mixed-case palletizing. #What #is #palletizing? Palletizing is the process of of stacking and arranging products onto pallets for convenient, high-volume storage or transport. It has developed along with the development of the forklift and the development of industry in general. The meaning of Palletizing refers to the method of stacking and arranging products or goods onto pallets for efficient handling and transportation. It is about strategic placement of items, ensuring stability, and utilizing space optimally. Palletizing can be done manually and automated by a robot or palletizing machine. Palletizing originally involved manual labor, putting boxes or heavy bags onto pallets for loading into trucks. automated palletizing is great way to improve efficiency, storage capacity, logistics and working conditions. 💠What is meant by palletizing products? Palletizing products involves the methodical and secure arrangement of various items on a pallet, enabling effective handling, storage, and transportation of goods. This practice finds extensive application in warehouses, distribution centers, and manufacturing facilities. 💠What is pallet packing? pallet packing involves stacking items to create a stable load, enabling easier handling, maximizing space utilization, and enhancing product protection during transit. Pallet packing refers strongly to manual stacking of goods on a pallet instead of using a palletizer machine to palletize automatically. 💠Why palletizing? Palletizing can provide numerous benefits, including increased productivity, improved efficiency, and reduced labor costs. By automating the palletizing process, companies can minimize errors and reduce the risk of product damage during the process . 💠Steps palletizing process 1. Maximizing box capacity When packing products into boxes, it is important to fill them to their maximum capacity, taking into account weight or volume limitations. To add an extra layer of protection, individual products can be wrapped before placing them in the boxes. Any empty spaces and corners should be filled to reinforce the boxes and prevent crushing during transportation. 2. Consideration of pallet types When utilizing an automated palletizer, it is essential to select the appropriate pallet type that matches the system’s specifications. Pallets are available in various materials, such as plastic and wood, and come in different shapes, dimensions, and weights. 3. Proper product stacking for distribution (while stacking boxes or crates) All boxes should be stacked with even weight distribution to avoid shifting or toppling of the pallet. It is crucial to ensure that the stacked items do not extend beyond the edges of the pallet, as this could result in damage. 4. Securing with a Wrapping machine Once the pallet is fully loaded, it should be securely wrapped with multiple layers of plastic wrap to bind the items and pallet together.

Inline Encasing Machine, installing on existing production line to convey carton box automatically In the fast-paced world of manufacturing and logistics, efficiency is paramount. One area where efficiency plays a critical role is in packaging operations. Encasing machines have emerged as a revolutionary solution, streamlining the process of packaging goods with speed, precision, and reliability. In this article, we will delve into the workings of encasing machines, their benefits, and their impact on modern packaging operations. 1.Understanding Encasing Machines: Encasing machines, also known as case packers or cartoners, are automated systems designed to encase products into cartons or cases swiftly and accurately. These machines are widely used across various industries, including food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and consumer goods. They come in different configurations, ranging from simple manual machines to highly sophisticated robotic systems. 2.How Encasing Machines Work: Encasing machines operate through a series of steps aimed at efficiently packaging products. The process typically begins with product feeding, where items are fed into the machine either manually or through automated conveyors. Next, the products are arranged and grouped according to the specified packing pattern. This can be achieved using various methods such as collation, stacking, or orientation. Once the products are properly aligned, the encasing machine forms the carton or case from flat blanks of cardboard or other materials. The formed cartons are then filled with the grouped products and sealed securely using adhesive, tape, or other sealing methods. Finally, the packaged goods are discharged from the machine, ready for distribution. 3.Benefits of Encasing Machines: Encasing machines offer a myriad of benefits to manufacturers and distributors: 4.Increased Efficiency: By automating the packaging process, encasing machines significantly reduce the time and labor required for manual packing, leading to higher throughput and lower production costs. Precision and Consistency: These machines ensure consistent packing quality, minimizing errors and reducing product damage during handling and transit. 5.Versatility: Encasing machines can handle a wide range of product sizes, shapes, and packaging configurations, making them suitable for diverse industries and applications. Space Optimization: Encasing machines are often compact in design, allowing manufacturers to optimize floor space in their production facilities. 6.Enhanced Safety: Automated packaging reduces the risk of workplace injuries associated with manual handling of heavy or bulky products.
