The last coal-fired power station is shutting down. Today, the UK closes the door on coal-powered electricity for good! Why is this a big deal? It means the UK is the first G7 nation to phase out coal from its energy mix. This is huge news in the fight against climate change. Since 1882, coal has been part of the UK’s industrial journey, but today, wind and solar power have taken the lead. In fact, wind and solar have helped to drive the decline in coal, making it possible for the UK to stop using it completely for electricity. While this is an incredible achievement, we can’t forget the communities impacted by the closure. It’s a big transition, but with growth in renewable energy sectors like wind, solar, and even hydrogen production, there are exciting new opportunities on the horizon. From 40% of electricity coming from coal in 2012, to less than 1% today, this is proof that rapid change is possible when we commit to greener energy. Here’s to a fully decarbonised power system by 2030! #energytransition #renewableenergy #greenfuture #coalphaseout #UK

Historical moment - UK's last coal-fired power station shuts down A few hours ago, the Ratcliffe power station, the UK's last remaining coal-fired power plant, officially shut down, marking a significant milestone in the country's energy history. This closure brings an end to 142 years of coal use for electricity generation in Britain. The utilisation of this energy source started in 1882 when the world’s first coal-powered station was built in London. Since then, coal has been a cornerstone of industrial growth and energy supply. Now, the UK is stepping into a cleaner, more sustainable future, leaving behind a long legacy of coal in favour of renewable energy sources.
