Excited to share that I have completed the course "Supporting Regulation As A Foundation For Effective Therapy"! This course deepened my understanding of how essential regulation is for individuals to engage, attend, and meet the demands of various situations. I explored the intricacies of regulation and dysregulation, and learned how occupational therapists can leverage sensory processing and therapeutic use of self to optimize arousal and alertness during therapy sessions. A comprehensive OT evaluation can determine the factors that are affecting a child's ability to function independently. For example, an evaluation may detect sensory processing issues, gross motor/fine motor limitations, or problems with visual motor control, balance and coordination. It can also detect impairments in executive functioning, motor planning, sequencing and step-by-step problem solving. An occupational therapist looks at all of these areas to determine how they affect a child's ability to function in his or her daily life.
