✈️ The Essence of Travel: Beyond the Destination ✈️ Travel is more than just arriving somewhere—it's about the experience and the growth that comes with it. Every adventure offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in new cultures, challenge your usual routine, and see the world through a different lens. It’s often the unplanned moments that leave the biggest impact: a spontaneous chat with a local, discovering an off-the-beaten-path spot, or savoring a traditional dish that carries generations of history. 🗺️ As travel evolves, the focus on responsible tourism becomes essential. Traveling mindfully, honoring local traditions, and choosing eco-friendly options can help protect the places we love for future generations. 🌱 #TourX #TourismExcellence #InternationalCollaboration #vocationalexcellence #CoVE #CoPCove iekAKMIedu - AKMI International | European Association of Institutes for Vocational Training (EVBB) | BK CON | Camera di Commercio Italo-Ellenica di Salonicco | DAISSy research group | Small Enterprises' Institute - IME GSEVEE | Mundus | ENAIP Veneto | Confindustria Veneto SIAV | Universidade de Aveiro | ASOFUER Turismo Fuerteventura | EU Project Innovation Centre | Escuela de Hostelería Europea | Ausbildungsverbund Teltow e.V. -Bildungszentrum der IHK Potsdam | EOPPEP | Regional Development Fund of Attica | ST Skills Together | Regione Veneto | DEHOGA Bundesverband | Brandenburg | Landkreis Spree-Neiße | European Vocational Training Association - EVTA | European Entrepreneurs CEA-PME

I first visited Jurmala, Latvia, 30 years ago with a young entrepreneur’s grant from the Prince’s Trust (nowadays The King's Trust). Last week we gathered 56 tourism professionals; SMEs, DMOs and Universities from five countries together, to create a new off-season tourism vision for the Baltic Sea Region. Two intensive days gave inspiration from our key-note speakers and energised workshops and parallel sessions. But also, many challenges of leading such a packed program; last minute illness of the key-note speakers and technical dropouts. Thanks to the great team of colleagues from Novia, Latvia and the wider project group, we still delivered a rich and meaningful session. So, do we still need to travel today to create new experiences whilst we could instead utilise the power of AI? Juho Pesonen at Visit Finland’s seminar today showed inspirational examples of how AI can improve product development and productivity, it can even attend online meetings with your boss on your behalf and present your opinions. I’m still a caveman of AI and am attempting to incorporate it into my work. But meaningful meetings are the key to online international collaboration. Afterall, tourism is about people, and our diversity in a globalised world. Apart from making me feel old, how does late-winter 1994 differ from autumn 2024? The adjacent golden sands stand equally barren after a hectic summer and the wind still howls through swaying tall pine trees. The sanatoriums are now all called spas, and Europe, which then was coming together, is being threatened by crisis and war. My visit in 1994 was to develop cooperation between young environmental educators in Scotland and Latvia. Now we, in Light in the Dark are working towards making the Baltic Sea Region, as a tourism destination, as well known as the Mediterranean.
