If like me, you feel like if it wasn't for bad luck, you wouldn't get any luck at all, I might have something to (marginally) brighten up this, our last day of April 2024. 😎 🌄 🏖 🌞 GIVEAWAY!!!!! I've got 3 x £60 off vouchers for Jet2Holidays (I got 4 originally and used one, but you can only use one voucher per booking). The only restrictions on these are that you have to book the holiday through Jet2Holidays (not valid for flight only with Jet2) before 7th May 2024 (so it's within a week) but they can be for travel any time between now and 31st October 2025 (so you've 18 months to travel). I am quite a tame consumer when it comes to services because I know how complicated it can be to offer a good experience to many. ✈ Regarding airlines, I guess I was lucky but I almost never got big travel hassle…except this time. So I would like to tell you a recent experience I had with flying… 🍀 I was supposed to fly for family vacations in Ireland for the first week ot the french Easter holidays.The plane (from the national irish company) was supposed to take off on Sunday afternoon. By Sunday morning, I got an sms saying my flight is cancelled and that I should get contacted very soon. We were supposed to take off at 4:30PM and by noon, still no news… Of course, I tried to reach them but the phone line never answered, tried what’s app, twitter, email but there was absolutely no one on the other side (maybe air lines just don’t work on Sundays after all 😄 ) Then, at 12:30 PM, I got a calendar email with a replacement flight taking place on Tuesday (=2 days later) on another company, meaning we would loose 2 days out of 8 days of our trip. There was no explanation, no excuse, no number to call, nothing, just a calendar email…as if everything was done by a computer (which is certainly the case) with no human behind to handle my frustration and my sadness to see this so expected week vacation being ruined. I was mad of course and still no one on the phone… On Monday, I manage to reach someone who told me basically = this is the way it is, they aren’t any other flights available flights for Dublin, you can cancel and be reimbursed or you can ask for compensation. Again this perception to deal with a pre-written script and no humanity at all. Last but not least = I paid for extra checked lugages and it was not transferred on the replacing flight on the other company so I had to pay again (and much more) at the airport. And of course some of the hotel and car rental fees were not refundable. But this is not so much about money, this is about taking into consideration my situation and having a human interaction. This company spends millions of euros in terms of image in order to generate preference and capitalize on the warmth and empathy of its irish brand character. What I experienced was just the opposite! As a market researcher, I do plenty of researchs concerning consumer journey. The point that makes the difference between a good experience and a bad one is dealing at some point with a human being that understands your needs and try to find a way to help you. Even if your situation has not improved, being listened to and taken into account makes a big difference. When I called the different bed and breakfasts or small hotels I booked in Ireland, I spoke to humans who were just empathic and caring, allowing me to reschedule my venue. I just wonder how much it costs to an airline company to have at some point in the process a real human interaction and not bots or automatic procedures…. #aerlingus #airlines #travelhassle
