The phrase "Don’t sleep on HBCUs" highlights the need for awareness and support for these institutions, which provide: Legacy Established to educate African Americans when access was limited and producing influential graduates in various fields. Academic Excellence Maintains high standards and cultural pride, supporting students' academic and professional growth. Diversity Welcomes individuals from all backgrounds, fostering an inclusive environment. Economic Impact Contributes billions to the economy, creates jobs, and prepares students for leadership. Cultural Significance Celebrates Black history and identity as cultural hubs. Social Justice Advocates for educational equity and inspires activism among students. In short, HBCUs are vital in shaping leaders and advancing equity in society. #HBCULove #XU

The total endowments across ALL HBCUs combined (~$5B) is less than 10% of Harvard University's endowment ($50B). Since January 2022, HBCUs have received over 75 bomb threats. Despite this, they continue to graduate almost 20% of all Black STEM majors (yet are only 3% of all US institutions) AND contribute $16.5B to the national economy. #ThisIsInnovation. This week, the Frederick D. Patterson Research Institute unveiled the new economic impact report on HBCUs. Titled "Transforming Futures: The Economic Engine of HBCUs," the report highlights how HBCUs go beyond producing socially mobile graduates. They significantly boost local economies, creating 1.5 jobs off-campus for every job on-campus. Since joining UNCF in 2019, I've championed this report and have been determined to reproduce it. This data underscores the vital support HBCUs need. These spaces are more than educational institutions; they are economic powerhouses deserving our backing. Let's give generously and advocate for increased support! I take pride in leading the FDPRI and UNCF team through this initiative. Programs like Westpac Youth Impact Challenges are geat and can be very helpful to all those involved. My experience working with youth overseas from developing communities does make me feel as there is often a missing middle step. The BOP Protocol 2.0 provides a framework that focuses on co-creation and collaboration. How organisations and the participants of such programs approach the opportunity is essential. My experience has demonstrated that youth often have a singular focus, as in my idea or my solution, not we or our. this of course, is not always the case, but programs like Little Go Getters, that foster a collaborative approach is helpful for a large number of youth to get the most from such programs and the impact they way to see achieved.
