Never a dull moment when involved in a Major Bridge being constructed! The amount of time and effort involved in the design/planning/procurement/fabrication and construction is staggering! The behind the scenes activities are where the success begins! All the minor and sometimes major hurdles that pop up prior to actual installation/construction! Like finding out your first pier cap is a foot too low and your ready to place the final concrete for that pier! Quickly Searching for a cause only to find out the survey team set a TBM Temporary Bench Mark on a new fire hydrant that got lowered one foot over the Christmas/New Year Break! Opps that resulted in all foundation pile/Mass Concrete Footer and first two column placements being constructed a foot low! Time needed to redesign and develop a solution which resulted in splicing #11 rebars to achieve the additional foot of height! One problem solved! We were fortunate that the contractor had other piers to allow the project contractor to continue working and minimize the project delay/additional costs. The Sharq Crossing (formerly Doha Bay Crossing) Masterplan, developed by Santiago Calatrava, features a unique combination of an efficient civil engineering solution and a highly iconic design. The Masterplan features a major traffic connection linking the Airport area with the West Bay Financial District and the Cultural City. Substituting the formerly proposed tunnel only system, Santiago Calatrava has designed a solution with a bridge at each of the three ends of the tunnel system.
