From Non-Swimmers to a Competitive Swimmer in the Family! 🏅🌊 Neither my husband nor I knew how to swim, which is why we prioritized swimming lessons for our son early on. Starting with 'Mommy and Me First' classes at just 3 months old, he was diving into individual lessons by the age of one. Today, he competes in swimming with absolute confidence and no fear of water. This transformation is not just about sports; it’s about safety. Dive into our journey and more in my book, "Safety First." Let's empower our kids with the skills they need! https://lnkd.in/eeeZDMd9

To go fast, freestylers have to kick well. What’s often lost is that they have to kick well WHILE they’re swimming. While being a good kicker is important, that’s only one step of the process. Using the legs while they swim is the ultimate goal, and that needs to be addressed specifically. To help swimmers improve their kicking while they’re swimming, I like to use several different strategies. I’ll do kick/swim sets of various types to help them learn to integrate the legs. I’ll have them swim with REALLY low stroke counts to get them to ride the legs. I’ll have them swim with DragSox. And I’ll combine these strategies. The ability to kick effectively WHILE they swim freestyle, and learning to HOLD it during competitions, is absolutely critical for swimmers if they want to go fast.

The simple answer is, YES! Let us explain... Aqua-Tots believes that safe swimming begins with learning breath control right from the start, and children learn to hold their breath through experience. This can be nerve-racking for both you and your swimmer, but we encourage you to keep cheering them on and preparing them prior to swim lessons. Going underwater is something most children enjoy after just a few lessons. #AquaTotsSwim #WaterSafety #SwimLessons

While different variations of closed swimming are effective for helping swimmers improve their pull, they can be made even more effective. How? Add some resistance. Using the forearm with a closed fist is one thing. Doing so with a parachute is something else. To make it even more effective, you can add speed expectations, stroke count expectations, or both. Swimmers will have to use the arms effectively. It’s a completely different game than slow swimming with closed fists. And of course, this is hard work.
