I'm thrilled to have had the opportunity to speak at the Academic Startup Program, a platform dedicated to catapulting early-stage Dutch startups with academic backgrounds into the realm of innovation! Competing alongside the best and brightest, Dutch academics showcased their groundbreaking ideas, vying for a spot among the top 20 science-based startups in the Netherlands. The energy and enthusiasm at the Consulate General of the Netherlands in San Francisco, as we celebrated the Top 10 winners, were electrifying. ✨Reflecting on my time with these remarkable entrepreneurs, three key lessons stand out: 1️⃣ Sheer Determination: Witnessing the unwavering determination of these entrepreneurs was truly inspiring. In the face of challenges and setbacks, they displayed resilience and tenacity, refusing to give up on their dreams. 2️⃣ Embracing Feedback: Despite receiving a barrage of feedback, these entrepreneurs demonstrated an incredible ability to continue working on their projects. They understood the value of constructive criticism and used it to fuel their growth and development. 3️⃣ Courage in the Face of Uncertainty: Perhaps most impressive was their willingness to confront the unknown, even when it felt daunting. These entrepreneurs showed remarkable courage, stepping out of their comfort zones and embracing the uncertainty that comes with innovation. A heartfelt shoutout to ScaleNL and Techleap for orchestrating such a remarkable event and for their unwavering commitment to nurturing the startup ecosystem. So great to see driving forward progress, making tangible impacts, and fostering a culture of innovation without boundaries. ‘Is there is no good business problem to solve?!’ Running a startup while in school is really, really hard. Last year, I chose Temasek Polytechnic with one goal in mind: To chase after my entrepreneurial dream. I keep failing and getting in trouble trying to start a business. And wondered how am i going to be competitive. Starting from the bottom with no experience, I tried all sorts of business ideas to strike a balance between innovation, passion, and fulfilment. It took me 3 failed side hustles to realise what went wrong It took me 3 semesters of meeting wonderful mentors to realise how one-sided i was It took me 3 different skills to know design is the industry for me And after a gruelling 4 months since June, SUSS took a leap of faith and believe in my dream to design for good. But this is just the beginning to countless hours of blood, sweat, and tears validating my startup. And I have to prove my worth even further. To all the mentors and professionals along the way, thank you so much for helping me get to where i am. Although i don’t remember your names, i do remember your faces and your contributions. I will pay it forwards just like you did to me. Most importantly, thank you Temasek LaunchPad and Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) To all my schoolmates: Try to fill your time in school with as much activities as you can. Which business school has the longest history of start up incubation and acceleration in France? It's emlyon business school of course. And we celebrate 40 years of incubation and acceleration today. With a long history of almost 2000 successful entrepreneurial projects, we selected 40 to be showcased today as part of our celebrations. The successful companies from emlyon have created over 15000 jobs and have impressive survival rates. Meanwhile we currently support over 150 student-led projects and 90 projects as part of our partnership with Entrepreneur Dans La Ville. The events today mark these successes and the new leadership of Alexander Bell, PhD, MBA as head of the incubator-accelerator after the amazing contribution of Michel Coster.
