It's a myth that emotions have no place in the workplace. As a leader in People roles, I learnt FAST that you have to solve things as a collective. One person cannot make a culture. Now matter how hard you try (and trust me, I did) As Michelle Barton, Bill Kahn, Sally Maitlis, and Kathleen M. Sutcliffe point out in the Harvard Business Review (thank you Ramona G. for sharing it with me): "Our psychological health is grounded in attachment to and acceptance by others. We are, essentially, social animals." https://lnkd.in/e_vmDphw Side note: they make two excellent points about workplace wellbeing. Principle 1: Frame adversity as belonging to the collective. When we view challenges as a shared experience rather than an individual burden, we pave the way for stronger connections and a more resilient community. This approach has been shown to improve team communication and function, as teams work together to tackle obstacles. Principle 2: Create and foster relational pauses. These are intentional breaks from task oriented work where employees can reflect on how their work affects them as human beings. It's not about therapy or venting sessions; it's about acknowledging the emotional realities of our work and supporting each other through them. As much as you are focused on creating an amazing culture at work, you have to do the same for yourself. Each week in Bloom we have the equivalent of a relational pause, a call where we share and hold space together, to celebrate our wins, and lock arms around the challenges that we find hard. Many of the women in Bloom felt like it was wrong to be heart centred, until they realised there was a whole community of us that felt the same. Is that you too? It's a myth that emotions have no place in the workplace. Because I had learnt how powerful it was to lead myself and others from the heart, I was able to magnify that within my role and create amazing change within the companies I supported. One of the favourite pieces of feedback I had from a former boss and leadership peer in my last role was: "Thank you for setting the bar for leadership within our team and for showing us how to lead better." Can you imagine being in FULL Bloom, and getting that kind of validation at work for simply being yourself…? DM me to find out how 🧞♀️

🌱 The Crucial Role of Leadership in Workplace Well-Being In today's fast-paced work environment, prioritizing mental health is not just a nice-to-have—it's essential for long-term success. As leaders, we play a critical role in fostering a culture that supports well-being. Here are some practical tips on how to model healthy work habits and create an environment where mental health is prioritized: 👍 Lead by Example: Your behavior sets the tone for the organization. If you prioritize work-life balance, take breaks, and openly discuss mental health, your team is more likely to follow suit. Research shows that when leaders openly share their experiences with stress or burnout, it encourages others to do the same. 👍 Encourage Open Communication: Create a safe space for team members to voice their concerns and share their feelings without fear of judgment. Regular check-ins can help identify any issues before they escalate, allowing for timely support and intervention. 👍 Implement Flexibility: Recognize that one size does not fit all. Offer flexible work arrangements and understand that employees have unique challenges outside of work. This flexibility can significantly reduce stress and improve overall job satisfaction. 👍 Promote Well-Being Initiatives: Invest in programs that support mental health, such as mindfulness workshops, counseling services, or wellness challenges. Research indicates that such initiatives can boost morale and productivity while reducing burnout. 👍 Recognize and Celebrate Success: Acknowledging both individual and team achievements fosters a positive atmosphere. Celebrating wins—big or small—can combat feelings of inadequacy and promote a sense of belonging. 👍 Foster a Learning Culture: Encourage employees to view challenges as opportunities for growth rather than threats. This mindset can help alleviate the pressures that contribute to burnout and imposter syndrome. 👍 Utilize Feedback: Actively seek and incorporate employee feedback regarding workplace policies and practices. This not only improves processes but also shows that leadership values the perspectives and well-being of its team. Leadership plays a pivotal role in shaping a culture of well-being. By modeling healthy habits and fostering an environment where mental health is prioritized, we can create a more resilient, engaged, and productive workforce. What strategies have you found effective in promoting mental health in your workplace? Mental Health & Productivity: The Overlooked KPI As a Director of Operations with a background in wellness counseling, I’ve seen firsthand how mental health impacts productivity, engagement, and overall business success. We talk a lot about efficiency, KPIs, and performance metrics, but what about the human element behind those numbers? A stressed, overwhelmed, or burned-out team doesn’t drive success - it stalls it. Here’s how I integrate mental wellness into operations to create a healthier, more productive workplace: ✅ Normalize Mental Health Conversations Burnout doesn’t happen overnight. It builds up in silence. Encouraging open, judgment-free discussions around stress and workload helps teams feel supported. ✅ Prioritize Meaningful Breaks Productivity isn’t about working longer—it’s about working smarter. I advocate for real breaks (not just scrolling through emails at lunch) to reset focus and energy. ✅ Balance Workload & Expectations Efficiency doesn’t mean piling on more tasks. It means optimizing workflows so people can do their best work - without sacrificing wellbeing. ✅ Lead by Example If leadership doesn’t prioritize wellness, neither will the team. I make it a point to respect boundaries, take breaks, and encourage self-care as part of a high-performance culture. ✅ Measure More Than Just Output Success isn’t just about how much gets done - it’s about how sustainably it’s done. A team that’s mentally well performs better, collaborates more effectively, and stays engaged longer. 💡 The best operations strategy isn’t just efficient - it’s human-centered. When people thrive, businesses thrive. How does your company support mental wellbeing while driving productivity? Let’s share ideas! 👇 #MentalHealth #Productivity #Leadership #WellnessAtWork #Operations
