Today, I had the pleasure of meeting Abdi, a bodaboda rider navigating the streets of Kisumu on Roam Air electric bike. He couldn’t stop talking about how the bike has improved his day-to-day operations—offering a smoother ride, reducing operational costs, and contributing to a cleaner environment. It’s inspiring to see how electric mobility is gaining momentum in Western Kenya, helping hardworking individuals like Abdi thrive. As electric mobility solutions like Roam Air spread across the region, we're witnessing a quiet but powerful revolution in transport. It's not just about moving from one point to another—it's about reducing carbon emissions, cutting down fuel costs, and offering a sustainable future for our communities. The impact is tangible, not just in terms of a cleaner environment, but in improving livelihoods by making transportation more efficient and cost-effective. Western Kenya is truly at the forefront of embracing cleaner, smarter transportation options. And this is only the beginning—we’re excited to see how much further this movement will grow, creating ripple effects for both the environment and the economy. In a quiet neighbourhood in Togo, Madam Akondo Aïda and her husband, Akondo Salomon, sit outside their small but bustling workshop. Their story is one of resilience, hope, and the transformative power of opportunity—fuelled, in part, by Spiro’s electric bikes. For eight months, Salomon has relied on a Spiro bike to earn a living. The sleek, efficient vehicle has become more than just a tool for transportation; it has reshaped the future for his family. “This bike helped me open a workshop for my wife, and we’re managing to get by,” Salomon explains with pride. His wife, Madam Aïda, adds her voice to the narrative: “My husband told me he wanted to buy a Spiro bike, and I thought it was a good idea. After taking this bike, there have been so many changes at home. We’ve saved money, sent our children to school, and we’re doing very well. I’ve even managed to open my own workshop.” Their story is emblematic of Spiro’s mission to go beyond mobility. By providing access to reliable, affordable electric bikes, Spiro empowers riders to save money, seize new opportunities, and create lasting change in their communities. “It’s truly gratifying to witness the profound impact Spiro is having on lives, extending far beyond just mobility,” says Rohit Pandita, Spiro’s Head of Product. “We’re proud to be part of a solution that creates real, lasting change for our riders.” The Akondos’ journey is a testament to how Spiro’s innovative solutions are touching lives across Africa. It’s not just about transportation; it’s about transformation—lifting families, driving progress, and fuelling dreams. Spiro’s approach aligns seamlessly with the continent’s urgent need for sustainable solutions, creating ripple effects of empowerment and resilience. From the Akondos’ workshop in Togo to the bustling streets of Kigali or Nairobi, stories like these illuminate a brighter, more inclusive future. Motorcycles are increasingly becoming the most convenient means of transport, especially in last-mile regions. With over 3 million bikes in Kenya (as per the Minister for Transport, Jan 2024), motorbikes have proven to be a vital tool for strengthening markets and enabling connectivity in remote areas like Northern Kenya. Proud to be part of a team that’s transforming lives in Turkana through the Ujuzi Mashinani Model, which decentralizes vocational skills and empowers last-mile communities. By equipping youth with practical skills, we are fostering resilience, enhancing market systems and creating sustainable economic opportunities. Together, we’re building stronger communities and brighter futures! #UjuziMashinani #VocationalSkills #YouthEmpowerment #LabourMarkets #MarketSystems #SustainableDevelopment

🔋Rwanda Leads the Charge: What Uganda Can Learn from the Electric Motorbike Revolution 🌍💡 With Rwanda expected to license only electric motorbikes for public transport in Kigali by January 2025, this country is setting a bold example to the region. 🚫⛽ With a clear vision of ensuring sustainable mobility, Rwanda is setting itself at the top leader in green transportation in line with its e-mobility strategy and reduction of carbon footprint. 🌱🌿 This move by the government is, therefore, an opportunity for Uganda to rethink our way forward in terms of transportation. With boda bodas playing a vital role in our economy, is this perhaps similar to policies that could help transition to electric motorcycles? ⚡🇺🇬 Key takeaways for Uganda: 1. Invest in Infrastructure: We have to put up a significant EV charging network 🏗️🔌 2. Gradual Transition: Incentivize current boda boda riders and train them 📚💸 3. Public Awareness: Highlighting the use of e-bikes due to their eco-friendliness and economy-friendly measures 🌍💚 The successful story of Rwanda serves as a bitter reminder that a green future is possible-and it's time for Uganda to accelerate its electric mobility journey. 🚗⚡ To read the full article about the move of Rwanda and what lessons can be drawn from it for Uganda, please follow this link: https://lnkd.in/dD4TmgvY #ElectricVehicles #SustainableMobility #GreenTransport #Uganda #BodaBoda #Innovation #CleanEnergy #EMobility #Rwanda #ClimateAction #ElectricMotorbikes #EV #Spiro #Ampersand #UgandaElectricMobilityAssociation #ElectricMotorcyclesinUganda #AfricaEmobilityAssociation #ElectricBodaBodas #ReduceCarbonEmissions #ZeroEmissions

Motorcycle delivery services are the backbone of last-mile logistics in both Ghana and Nigeria. However, they also contribute to urban pollution. At Gigmile , we are committed to exploring sustainable alternatives. Could electric motorcycles be the game-changer? This study dives into the potential of e-motorcycles to significantly reduce CO2 emissions in the last-mile delivery sector. We’re comparing various operational models, including electric vs. traditional ICE motorbikes, battery swapping vs. home charging, and the overall impact on the livelihoods of gig workers, such as potential cost savings. By introducing e-motorbikes to our community in Lagos and Accra, Gigmile is leading the charge toward a greener future for the gig economy in West Africa. We are grateful to Siemens Stiftung for their support in making this possible. Stay tuned for more updates as we push for a cleaner and more sustainable transportation solution! #Sustainability #EMobility #LastMileDelivery #GigEconomy #Gigmile #Africa
