🌿 Exciting Announcement 📚 I am delighted to share the publication of our latest paper titled "A Systematic Review on Traditional Use, Phytochemistry, and Pharmacological Activities of Manilkara zapota" in the esteemed journal Pharmacological Research-Natural Products. This comprehensive review provides a detailed summary of the botanical, taxonomical, pharmacological, and phytochemical aspects of Manilkara zapota. Our extensive review involved screening approximately 1475 papers, through which we identified and isolated about 21 compounds from Manilkara zapota showcasing significant pharmacological activities. 🌱 New research highlights the salt tolerance of Machilus faberi, revealing its growth adaptations to saline environments. While the species shows resilience up to 300 mmol−1/L, higher concentrations lead to significant physiological stress. At Enveda, we are obsessed with the wisdom of nature. We see this wisdom expressed in the chemistry of plants and in the wisdom of our ancestors, who have benefited from this chemistry for millennia through the use of medicinal plants. So we were delighted and awed by this recent observation of a wild orangutan self-applying a known medicinal plant to his face wound. This plant, Akar kuning (Fibraurea tinctoria) is used by the people of Sumatra for wound healing and has potent anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. As our founder Viswa Colluru, PhD says “wisdom exists everywhere in life, the question is whether we are paying attention and have the tools to find it.” It is an incredible observation that further expands how we define this wisdom of nature and inspires us to continue exploring our natural world for new medicines. Though it may be the holiday season, our country’s epidemic of lonliness and isolation has reached epic proportions. https://lnkd.in/gJW3KE_y While for some, drowning lonliness in drink is their only solace, I’m given hope by the latest developments in natural botanical alternatives. Most notably, PDE-4 inhibitors like those found in Sceletium tortuosum (kanna) may attenuate alcohol seeking behavior. When combined with GABA supporting botanical extracts like Chrysin-rich Passionfruit, it may be possible to reduce cravings, tremors and anxiety associated with alcohol dependence and withdrawal. https://lnkd.in/gid2eb76

Although genetics has the greatest effect on mushrooms chemical composition, the growing conditions can have a great addition if applied correctly. In our latest experiment we tested 2 different substrates to see their effect on chemical composition in various strains of Psilocybe cubensis cultivated in our lab. We can see in the results that the right substrate can significantly increase tryptamine content in all the strains tested. The surprising results were that the more potent samples had lower yield, compared to the lower tryptamine content ones which displayed higher yield.
