🌿 Exciting Announcement 📚 I am delighted to share the publication of our latest paper titled "A Systematic Review on Traditional Use, Phytochemistry, and Pharmacological Activities of Manilkara zapota" in the esteemed journal Pharmacological Research-Natural Products. This comprehensive review provides a detailed summary of the botanical, taxonomical, pharmacological, and phytochemical aspects of Manilkara zapota. Our extensive review involved screening approximately 1475 papers, through which we identified and isolated about 21 compounds from Manilkara zapota showcasing significant pharmacological activities. 🌱 New research highlights the salt tolerance of Machilus faberi, revealing its growth adaptations to saline environments. While the species shows resilience up to 300 mmol−1/L, higher concentrations lead to significant physiological stress. At Enveda, we are obsessed with the wisdom of nature. We see this wisdom expressed in the chemistry of plants and in the wisdom of our ancestors, who have benefited from this chemistry for millennia through the use of medicinal plants. So we were delighted and awed by this recent observation of a wild orangutan self-applying a known medicinal plant to his face wound. This plant, Akar kuning (Fibraurea tinctoria) is used by the people of Sumatra for wound healing and has potent anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. As our founder Viswa Colluru, PhD says “wisdom exists everywhere in life, the question is whether we are paying attention and have the tools to find it.” It is an incredible observation that further expands how we define this wisdom of nature and inspires us to continue exploring our natural world for new medicines. In this last episode of our short series about the University of Bristol Botanic Garden, Ivonne explores the Chinese Medicinal Herb Garden. She picks up valuable knowledge and insights along the way. This garden has the largest collection of traditional Chinese medicinal herbs in Europe. The herbs are arranged according to their traditional use. What does tea do in the human body? How about that Japanese knotweed in a container? Which plants calm the mind or help blood to move?
