Today is Children's Grief Awareness Day. At some point in our lives, we will all be touched by grief. For some, grief comes in childhood. It’s important to remember that loss is not restricted by age. When children grieve, they tend to experience it differently than adults, so it’s vital to understand how children deal with grief. One of the many things I don’t think I’ll ever get used to - children being bullied when they have lost someone significant. At first, I thought it was really uncommon. Now, sadly, I know better. And I wonder why this happens? Is it the child version of adults crossing the street when someone they know is bereaved? Because they just don’t know what to say, and feel so uncomfortable with someone else’s pain, that doing that seems ‘easier’? Or is it because there’s no empathy, they see someone in a vulnerable state, and just do what bullies do? Perhaps it is only once they themselves have experienced grief, that there will be some sort of understanding. Carrying so much pain already, it really is the last thing these grieving kids need. I am so glad that we have created a safe space for them, in this club where no one wants to be. But every day, I realise just how much work is still to be done.

Today, on Children’s Grief Awareness Day, we stand in solidarity with young hearts navigating the journey of loss. 💕 Grief can feel overwhelming, especially for children, but it’s important to remind them—and ourselves—that no one walks this path alone. 🌈 At Hospice Fredericton, we’re here to support children and families with compassion and understanding, offering a safe space to share, heal, and remember. 🌱🕊️ 💬 Here’s what some of the brave children we’ve supported have shared about their experiences. Let’s honour their courage and ensure every grieving child feels seen, heard, and supported. 💛 📌 Tips for supporting a grieving child: ✔️ Be present—listen without judgment. ✔️ Encourage them to express feelings through words, art, or play. ✔️ Reassure them it’s okay to grieve in their own way and time. 📣 Share this post to spread awareness and show grieving children they are not alone. Together, we can foster a compassionate community. 💕 #ChildrensGriefAwarenessDay #HopeAndHealing #GriefSupport #HospiceFredericton #CommunityCare 🌟
