Adult Comprehensive Sexual Education Seminar: Connecting with Your Adolescents (IRB-2024-80) This seminar includes information for the parents, caregivers, and support persons of adolescents regarding enriching relationships, improving communication, and increasing sexual health knowledge. Topics covered include adolescent brain development, facilitation of connectedness and communication, tackling tough conversations, as well as an overview of sexual health components and protection. The seminar will be preceded and followed by a brief survey to understand the impact of the seminar on adult comfortability with sexual health communication, frequency of sexual health conversations, and confidence in sexual wellness knowledge. 💡NEW from NCSD: Inclusive Youth Sexual Health Services Assessment Tool! To improve the sexual health of young people, adolescent sexual health services must address the inequities that exist among marginalized groups and make appropriate testing, treatment, prevention, and education accessible to all young people. Recognizing the unique needs of each adolescent, these services should also be tailored to the needs of the individual, while making them feel safe and supported. This tool is meant to be used by School-Based Health Centers or clinics that serve youth to assess current practices for equity and inclusiveness specifically related to serving youth of color, LGBTQIA+ youth, youth with disabilities, low-income youth, and other marginalized populations. Did you know? Condom use among sexually active adolescents in Europe has declined significantly since 2014. Only 59% of sexually active teens surveyed used a condom the last time they had sexual intercourse. What can be done? ⏩Investing in comprehensive sexuality education ⏩Enhancing access to youth-friendly sexual health services ⏩Promoting open dialogue ⏩Training educators ⏩Conducting further research to investigate the underlying reasons for the decline in condom use and the variations in sexual health behaviours across different populations to inform targeted interventions. By empowering adolescents to make informed decisions about their sexual health, we ultimately safeguard and improve their overall well-being.

SEPTEMBER 4th IS WORLD SEXUAL HEALTH DAY… To achieve sexual health for all, we need people to actually be able to access different kinds of care, which means undoing harmful systems! Access to care is about socioeconomic status, racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, misogyny, and all the oppressive systems in place in our country. Including these topics in reproductive and sexual health education, conversation, and policy formation is essential! So talk about it and keep talking for positive change and progress ‼️
