John Conway's Game of Life (1970) An attempt to simulate one of the most famous examples of Cellular Automaton devised by the British Mathematician John Horton Conway in 1970. The rules are pretty simple, but the emergence of complexity and unexpected behaviour is insane(you can check out yt, there are some great videos out there). Rules- 1. Any live cell with fewer than two live neighbours dies, as if by underpopulation. 2. Any live cell with two or three live neighbours lives on to the next generation. 3. Any live cell with more than three live neighbours dies, as if by overpopulation. 4. Any dead cell with exactly three live neighbours becomes a live cell, as if by reproduction. (The simulation is written in C++ with a double buffer approach and hardware acceleration. Currently, the cells are initialized randomly, but there are also many interesting initialisation patterns that others have discovered over time.)

Today is Fibonacci Day. He was the super famous mathematician of the Middle Ages, known for -- drum roll -- Fibonacci numbers. Says Wikipedia, "Applications of these numbers include computer algorithms such as the Fibonacci search technique and the Fibonacci heap data structure, and graphs called Fibonacci cubes used for interconnecting parallel and distributed systems. They also appear in biological settings, such as branching in trees, the arrangement of leaves on a stem, the fruit sprouts of a pineapple, the flowering of an artichoke, and the arrangement of a pinecone's bracts." The sequence shows that patterns and harmony are found in the most unexpected places. Fibonacci wrote: “In nature, we find patterns that are mesmerizingly beautiful, yet incredibly simple," the foundation, I like to think, of his best quote, which for me relates directly to media and marketing thinking, planning, and programming: “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”
