Today, we announced our inaugural debt conversion for nature. Alongside The Government of The Bahamas, Inter-American Development Bank (IBD), The Nature Conservancy, Builders Vision, AXA XL and other partners, we have launched The Bahamas Debt Conversion Project for Marine Conservation. This unique transaction is expected to unlock USD124 million to support ocean conservation and effective management of The Bahamas' precious marine protected areas, helping to deliver a multitude of benefits. Sovereign clients have been strategic partners throughout our long history, and we have a deep commitment to supporting them to meet their ambitions and drive the success of the wider economy. The latest transaction we announced last week illustrates that commitment in action. We acted as the sole lender and deal maker in this inaugural debt conversion for nature for Standard Chartered, underwriting a USD300 million loan which is underpinned by a comprehensive guarantee package. This is expected to unlock USD124 million in funding over the next 15 years to support The Bahamas to protect and conserve its precious system of marine protected areas – which provides critical habitats for diverse species, protects coasts from storms and sustains local livelihoods.
