🌍 CLIMACT is proud to partner with Sytra - UCLouvain for a study commissioned by the SPW on remuneration mechanisms for environmental services provided by agriculture. This study is part of the Walloon recovery plan "Terraé," dedicated to the development of agroecology in Wallonia.     🔎 Goal : Reward farmers not for their production, but for the environmental services they provide through agroecological practices. This study explores innovative strategies to combat Alternaria leaf spot in ashwagandha using environmentally sustainable methods. Throughout this endeavor, I've delved deep into the complexities of agricultural sustainability, striving to find solutions that not only address the immediate challenges faced by farmers but also contribute to the broader goal of environmental preservation. Excited to share our review article, “Mitigating Heat Stress in Tomato by Synergetic Effect of Trichoderma and Organic Manures,” published in the Journal of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Vol. 7, Issue 1). This work laid the groundwork for my undergraduate research, highlighting innovative organic solutions to tackle heat stress in tomatoes—a growing concern in the face of climate change. 👍 As part of the Research and Innovation Program under the iNEST-Interconnected Nord-Est Innovation Ecosystem, funded by the PNRR, #Thetis in partnership with Bio Soil Expert has secured funding for the SALT (Saline Agricultural Land and Territories) project. 👀 With a duration of 12 months, #SALT focuses on coastal agricultural areas affected by productivity loss due to climate change. The project includes the implementation of Nature-Based Solutions (#NBS), promoting the cultivation of halophytic plant species in Cavallino, on the Venetian coast. These species, endemic to the lagoon environment, have adaptive potential and were historically used for food purposes.

The #bioeconomy holds the promise of providing a growing world population with food, energy and material inputs. In a new research article published in Progress in Economic Geography, I argue that economic geography and geography of transitions research needs to pay more attention to the role of nature and natural resources. I conceptualize sustainable growth as 'green upscaling', and analyse how the Norwegian #salmonfarming/ #aquaculture sector* has developed in recent years. This is a relevant case due to high growth ambitions for the sector over the last decade or so. Despite considerable governance changes and technological innovation in the sector, I conclude that green upscaling in salmon farming remains somewhat elusive, and that the barriers to growth reflect difficulties in coping with volatile ecological/biophysical systems/'ecological infrastructures'. For the record: I do believe aquaculture in Norway can grow, albeit at a slower rate than foreseen some years ago. As alluded to in the paper, my guess is that conventional net-pens will remain dominant in the foreseeable future thanks to relatively incremental and cost-efficient innovations such as lice skirts and submersible pens. 💡@ONE GREEN Living Lab in Viotia region (Greece) pea crop (Pisum sativum). In our living lab, the pea goes beyond its role as a simple crop and becomes an important player in research on sustainable agriculture. By studying its nitrogen-fixing capability, its resilience to different pedoclimatic conditions and its potential for crop rotation systems, we are discovering new ways to improve ecosystem health and food security.
