🚜 🍆 How to financially support local environmental agriculture projects while preserving scientific robustness, fairness and claims credibility ? This question is more and more important as mechanisms are developing and companies are looking for local impact projects to support, especially CO2 removals projects. This study we conducted with Sytra - UCLouvain offers answers, take a look 👇
🌍 CLIMACT is proud to partner with Sytra - UCLouvain for a study commissioned by the SPW on remuneration mechanisms for environmental services provided by agriculture. This study is part of the Walloon recovery plan "Terraé," dedicated to the development of agroecology in Wallonia. 🔎 Goal : Reward farmers not for their production, but for the environmental services they provide through agroecological practices. For example, planting hedges around fields contributes to biodiversity and carbon storage. 📈 Findings: Although various private mechanisms already exist in Wallonia, a clear framework is lacking to ensure their scientific and ethical credibility. The study highlights the importance of a rigorous and fair structure, with 39 key criteria to ensure the robustness of the systems, focusing on: - Transparency of mechanisms, - Precise quantification of services, - Payment traceability, - Inclusion of farmers, who are on the front lines of climate change, - Adaptation to market uncertainties. Discover the study in the link below ⬇️ #Agroecology #EcologicalTransition #Climact #Sytra #Terraé #SustainableAgriculture #SPW #ClimateChange #CarbonOffset Adrien Lefebvre Charles Vander Linden Anton Riera Philippe Baret Pascal Vermeulen Olivier Lefebvre Arnaud Stas

Want to know how farmers across Europe are overcoming challenges and exploring opportunities to adopt agroecological practices to mitigate against climate change, support biodiversity and run profitable enterprises? Explore the findings from these real live hubs of ongoing research and innovation ….
👉 https://lnkd.in/g9xdGJZG Farm-scale research tells us a certain amount about the impact of agroecology. But what if we looked more broadly, at landscape or even regional level? Find out what case studies in Switzerland, Guadeloupe, France, Bulgaria and Spain, on grassland-based, silvopastoral or integrated crop/livestock systems, discovered about barriers and levers to success. 🙏 Project partners, please share German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) Halle-Jena-Leipzig INRAE Agrovi Agroscope CSIC Innovación ÖMKi - Hungarian Research Institute of Organic Agriculture Roskilde University Universität Rostock USH Pro Business Wageningen University & Research Soil Association Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ)

Hello, dear connections!☘️ 📚I'm delighted to announce the publication of my another research paper titled "Management of Alternaria Leaf Spot of Ashwagandha Through Eco-Friendly Inputs" in the prestigious "Journal of Eco-Friendly Agriculture". This study explores innovative strategies to combat Alternaria leaf spot in ashwagandha using environmentally sustainable methods. Throughout this endeavor, I've delved deep into the complexities of agricultural sustainability, striving to find solutions that not only address the immediate challenges faced by farmers but also contribute to the broader goal of environmental preservation. By studying the efficacy of various eco-friendly inputs, I've uncovered promising avenues for promoting crop health and resilience while minimizing ecological impact. #research #publication #agriculture #sustainbility #futurism #herbal #plantpathology

Excited to share our review article, “Mitigating Heat Stress in Tomato by Synergetic Effect of Trichoderma and Organic Manures,” published in the Journal of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Vol. 7, Issue 1). This work laid the groundwork for my undergraduate research, highlighting innovative organic solutions to tackle heat stress in tomatoes—a growing concern in the face of climate change. It reinforces the value of sustainable practices, blending Trichoderma and organic manures to boost resilience and ensure a greener future. #sustainable #agriculture #climatechange #organicfarming

👍 As part of the Research and Innovation Program under the iNEST-Interconnected Nord-Est Innovation Ecosystem, funded by the PNRR, #Thetis in partnership with Bio Soil Expert has secured funding for the SALT (Saline Agricultural Land and Territories) project. 👀 With a duration of 12 months, #SALT focuses on coastal agricultural areas affected by productivity loss due to climate change. The project includes the implementation of Nature-Based Solutions (#NBS), promoting the cultivation of halophytic plant species in Cavallino, on the Venetian coast. These species, endemic to the lagoon environment, have adaptive potential and were historically used for food purposes.

The #bioeconomy holds the promise of providing a growing world population with food, energy and material inputs. In a new research article published in Progress in Economic Geography, I argue that economic geography and geography of transitions research needs to pay more attention to the role of nature and natural resources. I conceptualize sustainable growth as 'green upscaling', and analyse how the Norwegian #salmonfarming/ #aquaculture sector* has developed in recent years. This is a relevant case due to high growth ambitions for the sector over the last decade or so. Despite considerable governance changes and technological innovation in the sector, I conclude that green upscaling in salmon farming remains somewhat elusive, and that the barriers to growth reflect difficulties in coping with volatile ecological/biophysical systems/'ecological infrastructures'. For the record: I do believe aquaculture in Norway can grow, albeit at a slower rate than foreseen some years ago. As alluded to in the paper, my guess is that conventional net-pens will remain dominant in the foreseeable future thanks to relatively incremental and cost-efficient innovations such as lice skirts and submersible pens. The paper is open access: https://lnkd.in/dTDJJAwS and part of a special issue edited by Dr. Sebastian Losacker, Teis Hansen and Daniel Schiller. Work funded by Norges forskningsråd (INTRANSIT, REBALANCE) and Nordic Innovation/Nordic Energy Research/NordForsk (GONST). *I mainly focus on the growout phase of the value chain. I do not consider the huge sustainability challenges related to feed and transport.

Agroecology promotes Co-creation and Sharing of Knowledge. In agroecology, knowledge is co-created through collaboration between #farmers, #scientists, and #indigenous #communities. Socially, this emphasizes equity, recognizing farmers’ traditional knowledge alongside scientific research. Scientifically, it fosters innovation, integrating traditional practices with modern insights to create sustainable solutions. This participatory approach empowers communities and improves local adaptation to environmental challenges. #agroecology #agroecología #agroécologie #agrarökologie #cocreation

💡@ONE GREEN Living Lab in Viotia region (Greece) pea crop (Pisum sativum). In our living lab, the pea goes beyond its role as a simple crop and becomes an important player in research on sustainable agriculture. By studying its nitrogen-fixing capability, its resilience to different pedoclimatic conditions and its potential for crop rotation systems, we are discovering new ways to improve ecosystem health and food security. Furthermore, our studies on intercropping peas with oats exemplify our commitment to agroecological practices, showcasing how these combinations can improve soil health, and enhance biodiversity in our fields. Join us as we explore the science of legumes and their ability to transform agriculture and pave the way for a more agroecological and sustainable future. #ONEGREEN #researchproject #hfri #aua #universityofPatras #west #agroecology
