Excited to share my experience participating in a 2-day hackathon at Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College During the event, I worked on the Crop Sense project, which aimed to provide smart farming solutions by integrating IoT and data analysis. Our project focused on real-time monitoring of soil health using sensors and offering crop recommendations based on the collected data. We implemented cutting-edge techniques to optimize resource usage and improve agricultural productivity, showcasing how technology can revolutionize farming. It was an incredible learning experience to collaborate with a talented team, brainstorm innovative ideas, and tackle real-world problems with technology. GNSS delivers precise positioning for field mapping and machinery guidance, while EO technology provides insights into crop health, soil conditions, and environmental factors, helping farmers make informed decisions and improve agricultural practices.   “With a background in agriculture, we have personally experienced the need for more efficient use of agricultural inputs than currently practised, as well as the challenge of balancing limited resources with the need to increase crop yields. This challenge created an incentive to find an easy way to gain a more detailed insight into the specific needs of crops and tools to act on these insights when the time was right. Hi Connections!! We had the opportunity to showcase our ML based Soil Health Monitoring and Recommendation System at Hack$Day Hackathon at Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College, Pondicherry. I worked on integrating various sensors to the system and streaming the collected data to database for monitoring and recommendation purposes. As part of this project I also developed a RAG chatbot which suggest measures to recover and prevent soil degradation. It was an incredible experience collaborating, learning, and innovating! 🌟 Celebrating Innovation in Aquaculture with AquaHealth! 🌟 We’re thrilled to spotlight Quant Loc Lam, a UHM Descartes NSF AI Traineeship, University of Hawaii at Manoa, College of Engineering Trainee and former PACE Leader, whose groundbreaking project, AquaHealth, is transforming Vietnam’s aquaculture industry—the world’s largest producer of catfish. Developed in collaboration with teammate Thi Hai Au La, AquaHealth is an AI-powered mobile app and website designed to diagnose diseases in aquatic species, starting with catfish. The app enables farmers to upload photos of sick fish and receive a diagnosis within seconds, helping them address challenges efficiently and sustainably. Reflecting on the journey, Lam shared: “I learned a lot from PACE—not just through hackathons, but through customer validation, interviews, and business planning. Understanding customer pain points is crucial, and PACE gave me the framework to turn ideas into real solutions.” 🏆 AquaHealth recently earned the Best University Project Award and a $1,000 prize, with plans to expand its AI capabilities to include more aquatic species.
