I like this quote from Tui Sankamol, and I think, I'm going to quote it in the future. This whole AI craze has got completely out of hand. Every day, some AI guru here on LI tells me that I'm missing out and falling behind if I don't jump on the ChatGPT band waggon. Looking at their profiles, they seem to be child minders, social workers or marketeers. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but I'm of a mind that that is not the right background for understanding such a complex and many edged subject matter as is AI. Most likely they found out that they are good a formulating queries, that will bring you a thousand followers a month and millions of euros in no time. Don't get me wrong. I'm not against AI as such. It's got great potential, good and bad, and I think we should think about the bad right now and mitigate risks right from the beginning. We are very good at being blinded by the things it can do, but blind to what it might be able to do. For now, don't mind if I keep doing my own thinking and my own writing.

AI should learn to clean washrooms as well.

You have two realities to choice from..

This is a bad take that just reinforces the general public's misunderstanding of the role AI plays. Gen AI is software. Pure and simple. Sure, revolutionary software. But still, software written by humans. And despite it's abilities to generate content in ways we've never before seen, it still makes a lot of mistakes. And the content generated is only as good as the prompts provided. I want AI to do my house chores so I can do art is not the mindset of a serious artist. I have seen so many artists, musicians, and writers embrace GenAI's capabilities and use it as a tool to create fantastic, new, and exciting works of art. Not doubt brush and canvas purists predicted the catastrophic fall of the quality of art when sprayers we introduced as an artist's tool. GenAI is no different in this regard. Microsoft's branding of the term "copilot" is on the money. That's the frame in which we should think of generative AI.

As a fan of AI and its potential, this post captures my sentiment about how we should position it.
