What about Cindy’s story? One of the things I love about leading the People & Culture Committee at Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Singapore is meeting incredible people and learning about the amazing things they’re doing. We all have a story. We all have our experiences. But when you’re inside your own corporate world, it’s difficult to see what’s remarkable. Now that I’m on the outside, I get to peek into others’ "fishbowls". Cindy Wee is responsible for the People & Culture agenda at Axis Communications in Singapore (and they have magnificent views of Singapore from their meeting room!) Cindy was our host for last week’s HR Roundtable, a forum where HR managers for Swedish companies in Singapore come together to support and inspire each other. One thing that stands out about Cindy and Axis Communications is how she, together with the organization, have cracked the code—the code for building a culture where individuals take initiative and responsibility. Instead of "tell me what to do" or "what’s the SOP for this?" (leading to "It’s not my fault, I did what I was told) Cindy and colleagues have fostered an environment that goes beyond following guidelines. From day one, employees are encouraged to think for themselves. And leaders let them. If no hand-holding, what’s there instead? There are 3 strong values as guideline for decision making and a clear direction. The result - a team that can figure out solutions to any challenge. Most companies are craving individuals who take initiative and have drive. But it’s less about finding those individuals—it’s about creating a culture that nurtures and unlocks this potential. 🔄 In my last post, I shared how my perspective on talent management evolved - from dismissing "unsexy" processes to recognizing their critical role in building organizational capability. Today, I want to build on that insight with an important truth: The most successful talent management initiatives aren't about running isolated programs - they're about creating an interconnected talent ecosystem where every part matters. This revelation came through years of implementing talent initiative across multiple countries in APAC region. Here's what I discovered: 👉 Just like performance management turned out to be crucial for identifying the right talents (as shared in my previous post), every component of talent management is deeply interconnected. 👉 What looks "unsexy" on the surface often holds the key to sustainable success 👉 The real impact comes from integration, not isolation Many organizations face these challenges: ✓ Development investments not yielding expected returns ✓ High-potential talents leaving despite development efforts ✓ Inconsistent talent practices across locations ✓ Difficulty measuring real business impact Sound familiar?
