What are these? KRA? KPI? SMART Goals? Same lah!!! Sure? More often than not, I get asked these questions and to some, shockingly, says they are the same. Jaw dropping moment! They are linked in some ways or another, I'd say it's rather a process of defining from a 37,000ft definition to a sea-level specifics. KRAs define broad, strategic focus areas where an individual or team contributes to organizational success. Its characteristics are broad, qualitative, aligned with the organizational objectives, and often linked to job descriptions or department roles. KPIs are measurable metrics to evaluate success in achieving specific objectives within a KRA. Its characteristics are quantitative, objective, trackable over time and are specific to an individual or team’s contribution. SMART Goals are specific, actionable statements that detail how to achieve a particular result, ensuring clarity and accountability. Its characteristics are Specific & Stretching: Clear and precise, Measurable: Quantifiable, Achievable: Realistic and attainable, Relevant: Aligned with business objectives and job role, and Time-bound: Must have a deadline. As you can see, by having all 3 elements incorporated into your HR Ecosystem, you'll have clear, concise, and detailed path in achieving your aspirations or North Star.
