Senior Program Manager at ZonMW - Program More Knowledge with Fewer Animals, Fundamental Research

Last Friday, my colleague Klaske Bos and I, together with Victoria de Leeuw and Anne Kienhuis from the RIVM National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, organized an inspiring workshop at ZonMw, entitled “Exploring NAM information initiatives”. We welcomed ~25 scientists who are working on a new database or infrastructure related to animal-free innovations or new approach methodologies (NAMs). Through pitches, we learned about the aim of each of these 12 initiatives and the progress they had made thus far. After that, Egon Willighagen from Maastricht University gave a very interesting lecture on Open Science and FAIR data and how this linked to the various initiatives. Finally, through interactive discussion sessions, we addressed important questions that are shared between the different initiatives, such as: - how to link the various initiatives? - how to reach your target group? - how to keep your initiative up-to-date and sustainable? All in all it was a valuable meeting in which we could inspire and help each other to strengthen our work on these valuable initiatives. Thanks to all who attended and made this a worthwile event!
