When I graduated, I thought I had it figured out. Spend the next 30+ years as a geologist Don’t get me wrong, I love my pretty rocks. My collection keeps on increasing! Getting a degree in 1 field doesn’t mean it’s your forever career. When I was 8, I wanted to be a farmer When I was 15, I wanted to be an architect When I was 20, I wanted to be an air hostess and a geologist. Now? Maybe all of the above We spent 90,000 hours in our careers. Time spent doing what we’re passionate about? Or not? As someone who is unsure herself where her career aspirations are. Let me tell you. It is okay to pivot 180 degrees Your previous experiences didn’t go to waste - They helped you build various skills - They open your eyes to your own strengths and weakness - They helped you see the world from a different perspective To anyone who is unsure about their career path: it's okay. You don’t have to have it all figured out after you graduate P.S: Follow for tips on career navigation, personal development, and 9-5 life!

𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝑰 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝑮𝒆𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒚 𝒕𝒐 𝒂 𝑪-𝑳𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒍 𝑬𝒙𝒆𝒄𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝑨𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒕! When people ask me how easy it was for me to transition from being a 𝙂𝙚𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙞𝙨𝙩 to working as a 𝘾-𝙇𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡 𝙀𝙭𝙚𝙘𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝘼𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙩, they often expect a complicated answer. It wasn’t as hard as you might think. The foundation of my geology training equipped me with the essential skills that became my advantage in the world of executive assistance. For instance, during fieldworks, I had to manage detailed schedules, generate field reports, and carefully track data. Does it sound familiar? These are the same skills I use now as an Executive Assistant, the only difference is the environment has changed. In Geology, attention to detail was critical either during examination of earth structures or ensuring accurate data entry from field trips, every piece of information had its place. As an Executive Assistant, that attention to detail plays a vital role in managing communications, organizing events, and handling day-to-day office operations. It was this more about adapting this skills to a different setting. And that’s what I love about my journey, discovering how versatile our experiences really are. The skills we develop in one field often serve us in unexpected ways in the next. 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒋𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒏𝒆𝒚 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆? #VirtualAssistant #ExecutiveAssistant #Linkedin #CareerGrowth

There is a problem in geophysics 🫠 Actually not only one, but let us talk about one problem 😅 I went to Career Day at #KFUPM, and I talked with one of the HR who is working in construction company. I told him that I am a geophysicist and looking for internship, I was expecting him to say “OMG! We are looking for geophysicist!!” But the amazing response was: “What is geophysics? And what do you do?” 🙂💔 Okay we know that geophysicist can work almost everywhere, but the question is “Does the companies know that geophysicists can work in their companies?” Maybe they are using the same concept in geophysics and same technology, but they don’t know that this is called GEOPHYSICS

Inspired by Kavell Brown - took a shot and letting Coauthor do an AI recap based on my LinkedIn posts over the last year. I have to admit... this is pretty good. Happy Holidays and Happy New Years folks! Peace Here's my 2024 LinkedIn Rewind, by Coauthor: Leading in geotechnical engineering taught me that strong foundations aren't just about soil and rock - they're about building inclusive spaces where talent can thrive. 2024 marked significant milestones in both technical excellence and industry inclusion: • Appointed as Chief Diversity Officer at Langan, expanding our commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace • Inducted into The Moles Inc., recognizing two decades of geotechnical engineering innovation • Received CREW Catalyst Award for transformative DEI leadership • Continued serving as Governor for Geo-Institute of ASCE, advancing technical standards • Celebrated 21 years at Langan, proving that meaningful careers grow from strong foundations Three posts that captured our journey: "Taking on Additional Leadership Responsibility" On expanding impact through DEI leadership while maintaining technical focus "I'm happy to share that I will be serving as the Chief Diversity Officer at Langan Engineering & Environmental Services!" https://lnkd.in/eGJGDXe4 "A Special Professional Milestone" On joining The Moles Inc. and two decades of technical innovation "To be recognized at this level by industry professionals that I have worked alongside for the last two decades… is truly humbling" https://lnkd.in/eMu-mmUn "CREW Network Convention Recognition" On creating systemic change through collective action "This award is only made possible because of the great DE+I work that Langan is doing as a collective" https://lnkd.in/e5iEUi9F Looking ahead: 2025 will focus on expanding Langan's DEI initiatives while advancing geotechnical engineering practice through technical leadership and knowledge sharing. The foundation is set - now we build higher. To every engineer working to make our industry more inclusive while pushing technical boundaries: your work matters. Excellence and equity grow stronger together. #technicalexcellence #lifeatlangan #bestplacestowork #dei

I've reached a noteworthy milestone today with Geoscience Australia: 13 rejections from 13 applications across multiple levels and roles over a few years all within my field - remote sensing and earth system science focused on Antarctica, Oceania and Australia. Some with a more polar focus, others less so. Some with field time, others purely in-house. Lucky 13 was an earth observation role related to Antarctica. From my perspective, the message is clear: don't apply here. I'll be celebrating similar milestones with other organisations as they reach double figures (or more) - because we hear so much about geospatial, research and leadership skills crises, and how hard good people are to find. Let's also talk openly about how hard good people are finding things - the absolute most common thing I hear when taking career advice is 'apply at Geoscience Australia, you'd be a natural fit!'. And there's another federal agency (the one I hear would be a great fit most commonly after Geoscience Australia) running a close second... lets see if they can make the list! So it's time to close this chapter. Geoscience Australia can have a rest from reading my CV. I can rest from writing out selection criteria. I'm still very open to being headhunted by the organization - if you're in GA and want to chat, get in touch. Convince me I'm wrong ;) To finish, have a nice fieldwork photo: Kronprins Haakon in Arctic sea ice, taken sometime in 2021 or 22 while working for the Norwegian Polar Institute.
