“To close the investment gap for the #SDGs and for the just energy transition – approximately $4.5 trillion annually – we need to drastically scale up private capital investment from the institutional investors. […] We have very good tools to achieve this but there are certain barriers to scaling this up,” write Robert W. van Zwieten and Harald Walkate in their contribution to our 2024 Annual Report. “The Mobilizing Private Capital Equation” is a framework developed by their team at Route17, building on the analogy of a music amplifier with four dials, that can be turned up or down to achieve the desired output. I'm thrilled to share that my insights were featured in the latest blog post from the Deep Transitions Lab: "The Power of Collaboration: How Public and Private Investors Can Align Investments to Drive Systemic Change". The post emphasizes the need for a transformative investment philosophy, moving beyond short-term gains and incremental improvements to focus on long-term systemic change. Public and private investors must collaborate to address the complexities of the global polycrisis. This aligns with my upcoming participation in the Engagement Week, led by Transformative Innovation Policy Consortium (TIPC) and the Deep Transitions Lab, with the support of Eu-SPRI Forum and hosted by the Generalitat de Catalunya. I’ll be speaking at two sessions: 1) Unmaking and Remaking the Finance Industry I'll introduce the new transformative investment rules (https://lnkd.in/eGuVcPwN), which aim to fundamentally reshape the finance industry to tackle systemic crises. Together with Alison Paton and Philipp Essl, we’ll explore the move beyond traditional impact investing. The session will be chaired by Roberta Benedetti del Rio, Deep Transitions Lab. 2) Rationales Underpinning Policy Design and Implementation for Transformation As a commentator, I'll share insights on how public policies can effectively support systemic innovations, engage diverse stakeholders, and leverage impact assessments. The speakers are Stephanie Daimer (Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research) and Renée van Dis (INRAE – Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire Sciences Innovations Sociétés), with Weber Matthias (AIT and EU SPRI) moderating. For those passionate about driving systemic transformation through aligned investment and policy practices, check out the full blog (https://lnkd.in/eniHxvpZ) and follow the discussions during TIPC and Deep Transition Lab Engagement Week (https://lnkd.in/ekGZUDr4)! #SystemChange #FinanceTransformation #ImpactInvesting #DeepTransitionsLab #TIPC #SustainableFinance #InnovationPolicy #TransformativeInvestment #CollaborationForChange

💫 Fantastic to see Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy speak about the importance of the #ImpactEconomy this week: "These new funds provide a much-needed, fresh opportunity to work in partnership with impact investors, tackling some of the most pressing social and environmental challenges while driving economic growth. We want to make the UK a world leading centre of excellence on the impact economy and look forward to working with the sector to unleash its full potential for our country." @Department for Culture, Media and Sport This follows the Prime Minister's announcement at this week's International Investment Summit #IIS24 that £63bn of investment will be invested into Britain, as well as the announcement that £550m of investment has been secured to tackle the housing crisis and get Britain building again - with Schroders, Man Group & Resonance all confirming new impact funds. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eZaBVnAD The urgent need to leverage the power of the #ImpactEconomy to help deliver on national priorities was highlighted as part of our #GoodBusinessManifesto, where we recommended establishing an Office for the Impact Economy, which would partner with businesses and investors to align the spectrum of capital and purpose-driven business activities to the delivery of the government’s policy priorities.
