Intestinal Rehab & Transplant Unwrapped’s Post

Cookouts are a great way to connect with friends and family on these warm summer weekends. As a transplant patient take caution. Getting any food borne illness is even more dangerous as an intestinal transplant patient. 1. Make sure that you thoroughly wash your hands after you touch the utensils used to scoop food onto your plate to help the spread of germs. 2. Make sure the food has not been out in the heat for too long to avoid food poisoning. The general rules are easy to remember: Temperatures between 40 and 89°F - 2 hours maximum Temperatures above 90°F - 1 hour maximum 3. Make sure the fruit salad you might eat does not have grapefruit or grapefruit juice as it can interact with many medications. For example it can potentially increase your tacrolimus to a toxic level! Enjoy time with loved ones, and enjoy the food with these tips. #TransplantLife
