5 - 12 May is National Road Safety Week. It's a time to remember the approximately 1,200 people who are killed and the 44,000 seriously injured in road crashes on Australian roads each year. At OBT, we'll continue to collaborate with our clients to help deliver safer roads so others survive. And as individuals, let's also pledge to drive so others survive. #roadsafety

This week is National Road Safety Week in Australia. As a long time supporter, SG Fleet encourages you to take the pledge to 'drive so others survive'. What can you do? Buckle up every time: It's the simplest and most effective way to protect yourself. Put down the phone: Distracted driving is dangerous. Focus on the road and avoid distractions. Drive to the conditions: Rain, fog, or bright sun? Adjust your speed and stay alert. Be patient and courteous: Leave plenty of space and avoid aggressive driving. Together, we can make a difference. #NationalRoadSafetyWeek #RoadSafety #SGFleet #nrsw #RoadSafety SARAH Group (Founder: National Road Safety Week)

This week, at M1 Traffic and Labour have taken a moment to reflect on two important observances that are close to our hearts: Road Safety Week and Remembrance Day. During Road Safety Week, we reinforced our commitment to promoting safer practices for all road users. Road safety isn’t just a week-long campaign for us—it’s a year-round mission. From our traffic management teams to the communities we serve, we are dedicated to ensuring everyone gets home safely. As the week concludes, we also pause to honour Remembrance Day. Today, we remember and pay tribute to those who have served and sacrificed for our freedom. Their courage and dedication are not forgotten. We stand united in our respect for those who paved the way for our safety and freedom and remain committed to upholding safety in everything we do. Let’s continue to prioritise safety, not just this week but every day, and hold close the memory of those who served. #RoadSafetyWeek #RemembranceDay #M1TrafficAndLabour #CommitmentToSafety #RWDOR24 #RWDOR

Fast Rescue Boats (FRB): Enhancing Maritime Safety and Emergency Response 🔹 What is a Fast Rescue Boat (FRB)? An FRB is a specialized small craft designed to perform quick response operations in emergencies. Unlike standard lifeboats, FRBs are built for speed, stability, and efficiency in rough sea conditions, making them ideal for search and rescue missions. They are equipped with powerful engines, robust hull construction, and advanced navigation systems. 🔹 Why is an FRB Critical for Maritime Safety? During emergencies such as man-overboard incidents, a rapid response can be the difference between life and death. FRBs can reach the casualty quickly, maneuver effectively in tight or turbulent waters, and carry out the recovery operation safely. 🔹 Key Features of a Reliable FRB: 1. High-Speed Capability: FRBs are powered by high-performance engines to enable quick arrival at the scene. 2. Excellent Stability and Buoyancy: Built for challenging sea conditions, FRBs maintain stability and ensure crew safety even in adverse weather. 3. Advanced Navigation and Communication Systems: Equipped with GPS, AIS, and VHF radio to support precise navigation and coordination with the mother vessel. 4. Dedicated Rescue Equipment: Typically outfitted with harnesses, recovery lines, lifebuoys, and emergency medical supplies to handle a variety of rescue scenarios. 🔹 Best Practices for Operating an FRB: - Crew Training and Certification: Operators must be well-trained in launching and handling FRBs, including conducting MOB recovery drills and emergency towing operations. - Maintenance and Readiness Checks: Regular inspections of engines, fuel systems, and safety equipment are crucial to ensure operational readiness. - Emergency Drills and Simulations: Conduct frequent MOB drills under varying sea and weather conditions to improve the crew’s proficiency and reaction time. 🔹 Pro Tip: Include nighttime MOB drills in your training schedule to ensure that your crew is comfortable operating the FRB in low-visibility scenarios. #MaritimeSafety #FastRescueBoats #FRB #EmergencyResponse #SearchAndRescue #SafetyAtSea

Safe Speed & Seafarers Rule 6 of the International Regulations for Preventing Collision at Sea regulates Safe Speed at sea. The key takeaway is that a vessel must be able to stop "within a distance appropriate to the prevailing circumstances and conditions." This regulation isn't about how fast a ship can sail, but rather how rapidly it can stop in an emergency to avoid collision. We seafarers often find ourselves running at high speed while onboard, frequently forgetting that the principle of "safe speed" applies to us as well. It's high time we stop neglecting our health—especially mental health—and take measures to attend to it regularly during our contracts. One solution that comes to mind is the live TV to vessels provided by FrontM. I had goosebumps when I first watched the news and sports over Loft Multiplex. Live! I imagine 20 of us crew members gathered in the Ship's Recreation Room, whistling and screaming, watching a live match. The next morning, we would go to work with a spring in our steps, later discussing the match highlights over tea and lunch. Do you realize what this means for us, isolated on a floating island in the middle of nowhere? It brings a slice of normalcy, excitement, and connection to our lives, making the vast ocean feel a bit smaller and more familiar. FrontM #seafarers #mentalhealth

I’ve been working on a mini-documentary that explores what it truly takes to keep people safe in the wild. What stands out to me is the incredible teamwork required to make a backcountry rescue possible. From the skilled pilots and engineers working tirelessly to maintain life-saving rescue aircraft, to Wilderness First Responders braving the elements, and instructors teaching essential skills—every role matters. Even people like you, who take the time to learn CPR, navigation, or first aid, contribute to this larger effort. Every skill, no matter how small, plays a critical part in protecting lives in unpredictable environments. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the behind-the-scenes moments of a backcountry helicopter rescue 👇

Join Arrowes Roading Safety in supporting National Road Safety Week! Every year in Australia, over 1200 people lose their lives, and more than 40,000 are seriously injured on our roads. Shockingly, traffic injuries are the leading cause of death for Australian children under 15 and the second leading cause for those aged 15 to 24. These statistics are on the rise, but they are preventable. National Road Safety Week, an annual initiative by the Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH) Group in collaboration with road safety organizations and government agencies, serves as a crucial reminder of the impact of road trauma and the measures we can take to mitigate it. Let's drive with the mindset of protecting others on the road. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that everyone arrives safely to their destinations. Drive So Others Survive!
