Trashverse India Foundation is thrilled to have made our debut at the 3rd Edition of the Morais City - Trichy Marathon 2024 on December 8th! Partnering with Morais City and GIZ India, we demonstrated how sustainability can be the heart of large-scale events. This event had an incredible turnout with 983 participants out of 1000 registered for 5k and 10k run. A small yet powerful initiative made all the difference. Before the race began, the host took a moment to remind participants: "Let’s keep our marathon clean – avoid littering and use the bins provided!" The result? A significant reduction in litter across the marathon route and a visible commitment from participants to embrace sustainability. Along with a simple nudge to participants to avoid littering, Morais City made a right decision: replacing plastic water bottles at hydration points with water dispensers to avoid generation of plastic waste and wastage of water. All wouldn’t have been possible without the invaluable technical support from GIZ under their "India - Waste Solutions for a Circular Economy" initiative. Circular Waste Solutions vanishree BR GIZ India Trashverse India Foundation appreciates Morais City for exhibiting their commitment to conduct an eco-friendly event, and are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate at the last moment, with the ideas of simple nudge turning awareness into action. Let’s continue making conscious choices to collaborate for change and build a trashless future together! "Namami Gange – Reviving India’s Lifeline" In 2014, the Indian government launched Namami Gange, a mission dedicated to rejuvenating the sacred River Ganges through integrated wastewater management. For decades, this river has been a source of life for millions, yet it faced increasing pollution from untreated sewage, industrial waste, and plastic. This ambitious initiative was a call to all – communities, companies, and NGOs – to unite and restore the Ganges to its former glory. Project Highlights and Key Contributors Through Namami Gange, multiple effluent treatment plants were set up, riverbank beautification projects were implemented, and efforts to reduce plastic waste intensified. Notably, Hindustan Unilever partnered with local governments to establish efficient waste treatment processes, while Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) created digital solutions to monitor water quality. On the NGO front, The Art of Living ran campaigns for citizen involvement, educating locals on sustainable practices to reduce pollution. Similarly, WWF-India India focused on restoring the river’s natural biodiversity, helping with dolphin conservation along the Ganges. Impactful Actions and Results With joint efforts from the government, private sector, and NGOs, Namami Gange has successfully reduced pollution levels in several stretches of the river. As the lifeline of India, the Ganges is seeing its flora and fauna flourish once again, and communities are enjoying cleaner water and healthier livelihoods. By sharing this journey of Namami Gange, let’s inspire more contributions toward a cleaner, greener India! #NamamiGange #SaveGanga #RiverConservation #CleanWaterInitiative #EcoIndia #WastewaterManagement #SustainableDevelopment #GreenIndia #TataConsultancyServices #HindustanUnilever #WWFIndia #ArtOfLiving #GangaRejuvenation #EcoAwareness #IndiaEnvironment

Did you know? There are about 75 trillion pieces of plastic and microplastics in the ocean today. 15,343 tonnes of waste dumped in the South Asian seas daily is generated from 60 major Indian cities. If we do not stop, by 2050 there may be more plastic than fish in the sea. Let's turn the tide and catalyze action for our ocean to create lasting change for generations to come! #WorldOceanDay #CoastalCities #ClimateChange #PlasticWaste #CleanOcean FICCI | Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen | Swachh Bharat Urban | Ministry of Jal Shakti | Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs | Ravi Bhatnagar | Prabhakar Lingareddy | Ishan Raina | natasha patel | Sanjeev Jha | Nupur Krishna | Eden Menon

Green Warrior of the Week: Karan Rastogi – Turning Temple Waste into Sustainable Gold 🌿🌍 Meet Karan Rastogi, the visionary co-founder of HelpUsGreen, a Kanpur-based social enterprise transforming floral waste from temples into eco-friendly products, preventing pollution, and empowering communities. Karan's journey began in Uttar Pradesh, where he witnessed firsthand how discarded flowers from temples polluted the sacred Ganges River. Driven by a desire to protect the environment and uplift local communities, Karan, along with co-founder Ankit Agarwal, turned this waste into an opportunity for sustainability. His mission? To 'flowercycle' temple waste into innovative products, reducing pollution and promoting sustainable livelihoods. Through HelpUsGreen, Karan has achieved remarkable milestones: 🌺 Prevented over 11,000 tons of temple waste from entering water bodies, safeguarding rivers and marine life. 🌱 Created eco-friendly products like organic fertilizers, incense sticks, and biodegradable packaging, all made from recycled flower waste. 👩🔧 Empowered over 100 women from marginalized communities, providing them with stable employment and a path to economic independence. ♻️ Developed the world’s first biodegradable thermocol (Florafoam) using temple flowers, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional packaging materials. Karan’s innovative work with HelpUsGreen is reshaping waste management and proving that sustainability, creativity, and community empowerment can coexist beautifully. His journey is a powerful reminder that solving environmental challenges starts with a simple idea and a commitment to act. When I stepped into one of New Delhi’s first and only zero waste colonies, I was welcomed by a community that has been living and breathing sustainability for the last 5 years. United in their shared purpose, this close-knit neighbourhood of 250 households came together, committed to create change. Reminding us that even with the smallest of actions, we can make a world of a difference. Here, every action is a step towards a greener tomorrow: * Sorting green waste with intention, and transforming it into Earth-enriching black gold. * Turning plastic trash into renewed, repurposed, reusable treasure. * Taking individual responsibility and working towards a common goal as a community. This collaborative effort has helped save a heaping 6 lakh kgs of waste from filling more of our landfills from becoming ever-mounting dumping grounds. It goes to show that we can work through every maze, create solutions for every problem, and surpass every challenge as long as we have hope and the will to walk the path of individual impact, especially if a woman is leading the way.
