In my department in the Duke University School of Medicine—Duke Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences—every month is #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth, but we often shine a brighter spotlight on mental health in May. Unfortunately, mental health struggles are all too common, and the more we can do to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and share resources and support, the better we'll all be. Although it's often overlooked, treated separately, or not addressed due to a lack of access, mental health is a vital part of our overall health. One of the ways we're celebrating the month this year is by updating our curated list of resources. Check out the list below, and tell me: what are *your* go-to resources, means of support, or strategies for maintaining your well-being and mental health? Here are mine: exercise, creating delicious meals, and spending time with my family.
We've updated our curated list of mental health and well-being resources in honor of #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth! Visit http://duke.is/WellBeing for crisis/help lines, websites, organizations, recommended books and podcasts, and more! What's your go-to resource? Share below!

I'm so glad I can now show this opportunity I had to focus on an issue important to me, and was able to interview researcher currently studying this issue. For a while now I've thought a lot about the information we get from online, and how this particularly impacts youth like myself and my peers. From personal experience, I've seen a lot of people's opinions on mental health strategies, diagnoses, and issues that are coming from those not with a relevant background on the topic. While I believe personal stories are incredibly important, I'm worried on what misinformation may be doing, especially towards younger people. In this episode I ask a researcher's perspective on social media and misinformation- the good and bad- and practical things people can do to stay informed. Thak you to Professor Lorenzo Lorenzo- Luaces, and the whole NAMI NYS team!
The rise of self-diagnosing and 'therapy speak' on social media: A cause for concern?
