Heritage-listed buildings are valuable pieces of history that require special care, especially when it comes to cleaning. Recently, we successfully cleaned the facade of a heritage-listed school that was covered in extensive moss and grime. The challenge was to remove these contaminants without damaging the delicate, aged surfaces. To tackle this, we used a combination of pressure cleaning and soft washing. Our pressure cleaning employs controlled water pressure to eliminate stubborn dirt and moss without harming the building materials. For more sensitive areas, soft washing involves gentle water flow and eco-friendly solutions to safely remove biological growth. Evidently, the actor #ChrisPratt has decided to demonstrate that #wealth, good taste, and #sustainability often don’t go together. As a result, a gem of #architecture has been lost and a #McMansion built in its place. We talk a lot about how wasteful (and dangerous) large vehicles are, but we seldom address the waste that goes into the #construction of these monuments to their owners’ egos. Nor do we address the #fossilfuel use that will go towards #heating and #airconditioning them. Plus, their massive footprint and roofs contribute to #stormwater runoff and #flooding. To top it off, replacing a smaller home with a giant carbuncle eliminates an opportunity for the less obscenely-wealthy buyers to get into the #realestate market, further aggravating the #housing crisis by keeping would-be buyers in the rental market and rents high. Given the impacts of #climatechange and the #homelessness surge, isn’t it time that #cities started limiting the size of these bloated castles and give the planet and society some breathing space?
