TREASoURcE policy recommendations for a circular economy 🌍🔄 Legislation can both help and hinder the circular economy transition. In TREASoURcE, one of our aims is to understand the EU and national regulatory frameworks for the three key value chains: plastics, batteries and biobased side and waste streams. Our policy work focuses on mapping these frameworks and identifying key drivers and barriers. 📊🔍 The recently published D1.3 report provides policy recommendations to both EU and national authorities. Our partners are now formulating the most impactful recommendations into targeted policy briefs and white papers for key regulatory audiences. Our goal is to promote circularity from a regulatory standpoint. 📑📈 For further insights, read the blog post by Tran Ngo and Nora Berglund or check the current status of our work below! 💡👇 https://lnkd.in/dZniFYcy #TREASoURcE #circulareconomy #policyrecommendations VTT MTK ry – Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners

Sustainability and Shorr go hand in hand. Case in point: Our partnership with a leading agricultural manufacturer is helping it reduce Scope 3 CO2e emissions by 30% – a key milestone in its mission to hit major sustainability goals by 2030. Shorr’s experts recommended a switch in packaging materials that helped drive significant environmental savings. After our STAMP™ audit (Shorr Total Approach to Managed Packaging) uncovered key opportunities and our sustainability experts formed a strategy, we were able to put a plan in place that reduced greenhouse gases by more than 43.6M lbs., while eliminating over 15.8M lbs. of solid waste! The Agri-food industry is positioned as a critical enabler to decarbonise the wider economy and support new jobs, new businesses, and deliver growth in the circular Bioeconomy.
https://lnkd.in/ekQgyZq7 Transforming the agri-food system from a “take-make-waste”, or linear production system, to a circular bioeconomy that reduces, recycles, recovers, reuses, and regenerates wastes and transitions from fossil to biobased fuels and products is being hailed as critical for meeting a growing population’s food and fuel needs in environmentally sustainable. This paper examines five critical pathways to achieve a sustainable circular bioeconomy in a market economy consisting of decentralized decision-makers.

Nearly half (42%) of SMEs in England don’t know that upcoming Simpler Recycling legislation will impact their business, according to a new survey from Biffa. “Being more sustainable is not always simple or cost-free, but more SME decision makers are prioritising sustainability than ever. Our research shows that small and medium sized businesses are capable and motivated to make positive change. This change and growing commitment to sustainability, through what have been incredibly tough trading conditions for many, has not been driven by government regulation alone." said Maxine Mayhew. https://lnkd.in/e2k7wA_W #recycling #simplerrecycling #plastictax #sustainability

How can this possibly be workable? Ill thought out legislation which will ultimately drive consumers towards additives and plastics. More support is needed to allow producers to embrace environmentally friendly packaging which allows for ‘no preservatives’ and natural ingredients but with a decent, practical shelf life. Punishing those producers who pack in glass, in order to be able to do this, seems to be a retrograde step. British Soft Drinks Association - what is your view on this? Surely this is a case of being ‘seen to do the right thing’ by DEFRA whilst ultimately driving completely the wrong sorts of consumer behaviours! Well crafted drinks. Poorly crafted legislation!
DEFRA's new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) levy is designed to drive innovation in recycling but is instead a step back for the environment and consumers’ health, and detrimental to the natural drinks industry ♻️ Here’s why…

Mass Balance is super important to decarbonise our industries! There's an abundance of underutilised waste. Technology advancements in the production of fuels and chemicals are being perfected so that we can start tapping into those valuable waste streams. But traceability and chain of custody is key. Which is what the Mass Balance approach gives us. A reliable way to ensure proper circular economy practices and actual industry decarbonisation! And the Mass Balance approach not just relevant from a technical standpoint. It bring important business benefits too. Here's summary of some of the business values in 4 core areas: Market position, Cost efficiency, Compliance, and Scalability. Find out more here: https://bit.ly/4cPbHlI 💡
🌿♻️ Mass balance is revolutionizing sustainability in business. This approach allows companies to track and allocate sustainable materials mixed with conventional ones in their supply chain, particularly useful in industries like palm oil, cocoa, and recycled plastics. Credibility requires accurate tracking, third-party audits, and transparent communication. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲?
