The secret is out and this is just fantastic news for Treehouse Eyes A common theme I encountered before joining was concern from colleagues on a lack of real and clinical data. "They are just a group of docs simply managing myopia in children. So what's the big deal? You're doing that on your own just fine." End of the day this isn't just about me. It's about being better for myself and my patients, but also helping our profession become better at assessing and managing #myopia as a whole. CAMP brought us the earliest form of the TVS myopia treatment protocol, but the addition of Maria will further beef up the team of Tom, Earl, Kevin, and others for even more resources and improved data, protocols, and outcomes. The village is growing, and this is just another step in thinking BIG for little eyes.

Hi YO’s, RWO would like to share 6 tips on Finding Your Niche as a Young Ophthalmologist: 1.Be available! The more available you are in office, the more patients you will visit, and the more surgery cases you will have. 2.Make sure that you and your team are nice, kind and caring to patients. This results in more referrals. “Patients do not care how much you know until they know how much you care”. If a patient is unhappy, find out why and rectify the issue. 3. Let your community know you are in practice. This may include personal visits to potential referring doctors, the use of social media and participation in local societies and meetings. 4. Establish an online presence. Share valuable insights, engage with your audience, and showcase your expertise. 5. consider some level of advocacy for your profession. Join your state ophthalmology society, support action committees of your field, and get to know and support your state elected representatives. 6. Engage with your community educational events, participate in local health initiatives, attend conference, join organizations and collaborate with other professionals. As a young ophthalmologist you can find your niche and build reputation in your own practice by remaining mindful of these tips! Highlights from a week in the life of an Ophthalmologist and R&I Director. 1. Monday - Spoke at the RNIB training day on Geographic atrophy in the current landscape. In UK and Europe, we still don't have treatment for geographic atrophy and understanding how to recognise it in the community, signpost patients to practical and mental health support and progress with potential therapies in the pipeline is so valuable to our Optometrists, ECLOs and those working in low vision clinic settings. 2. Tuesday - Presented the 'Why, Who and What' of the NICE Guidance for Diabetic Retinopathy at the Yorkshire Retina Society in Leeds. The meeting was so welcoming and cosy and we delved into the practicalities of implementation of this important guidance 3. Wednesday - Investigator Meeting in Rome for a clinical trial in diabetic Macular oedema. Team UK lifting our weight on the global stage for sure! 4. Thursday - Florence for the FLORetina congress with my research team. Our research coordinators and imaging technicians attend along with our fellows and consultants every year. Great bonding opportunity and time to learn, rejuvenate and reflect before the year ends. I will be joining Aleksandra Rachitskaya, MD, FASRS Stela Vujosevic and Professor Ian Pearce on a panel on Friday and look forward to Arevik Ghulakhszian presenting our real-world case series on Saturday Tough work but somebody's got to do it😉

* JHU Wilmer Eye Institute researchers are part of this ARPA-H project: transplant eye plus optic nerve to restore vision. The goal is to restore vision to patients with total blindness, according to researchers. The grant will support the work of the Total Human Eye-allotransplantation Innovation Advancement project team led by CU. Researchers at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus received up to $46 million in a grant to help develop an innovative treatment to cure blindness. The Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health award will allow researchers to make whole-eye transplantation a reality.  "Currently, there has never been a successful whole human eye transplant for the restoration of vision," said principal investigator and surgeon-scientist Dr. Kia Washington in a statement. "We believe the great advancements over the last two decades in technology, transplantation surgery, and regenerative medicine now make restoration of vision possible." The CU Anschutz team said it will begin with animal models on optic nerve regenerative strategies, immunosuppression, and post-operative care, with the goal of advancing to human trial studies. https://lnkd.in/e_YD4NcF
