#Biodiversity is critically important for the future of a #sustainable food system. It strengthens #resilience to environmental changes, supports natural pest control, ensures a variety of nutrient-rich foods, and safeguards future #foodsecurity. 🌾🐝🍎 In the latest #quickfire chat for the Sustainable Foods Conference. We sat down with Samantha Deacon, principal, biodiversity & ecosystems at Ramboll, to discuss the importance of integrating biodiversity metrics into #foodsystems. Reflecting on World Bee Day 🌍 Yesterday, we celebrated World Bee Day, an annual reminder of bees' vital role in sustaining our ecosystems. As a sustainability advocate, I want to emphasize the critical importance of these incredible pollinators not just on one day but every day. Why Protect Bees? Biodiversity: Bees pollinate about one-third of the food crops we consume, supporting the growth of fruits and vegetables. Ecosystem Health: They help maintain the balance of our natural flora, aiding in the survival of many plants and animals. Economic Impact: Bees provide unparalleled agricultural benefits, enhancing crop yields and, thus, global economies. Let's continue to protect and support these essential creatures. Simple actions like planting bee-friendly gardens, supporting local beekeepers, or reducing pesticide use can make a significant difference. Together, we can ensure that bees continue to thrive, helping our planet's health and our own. I want to thank my good friend Alexandre Profit for embarking on this journey. #WorldBeeDay #Sustainability #Biodiversity #EcoFriendly #Pollinators

Yesterday the IPBES released their Assessment Report looking at the interlinkages between food, biodiversity, water and health. The report highlights that funding for nature is dwarfed by both public and private finance that goes towards nature-harming activities. 💰 Unaccounted-for costs of prioritizing short-term financial results and lack of accountability of nature exploitation is at least $10-$25 trillion per year. 🦋 Biodiversity loss has direct negative impacts on food security and nutrition, water quality and availability, health and wellbeing outcomes. These impacts are often most significantly felt by the poorest. 🥕 Shifting to healthy and sustainable diets and reducing food waste will benefit the health of people and planet. This shift will free up land, providing in a range of co-benefits for nexus elements, such as biodiversity conservation and carbon sinks. 🧑🌾 Agroecological approaches has positive effects for biodiversity and climate change. Overall, the report identifies 70 solutions as shown below in this chart from the report.👇 A summary of the report can be found here 👉 https://lnkd.in/e8vY72E2 #biodiversity #climatechange #food #diets #foodsecurity #water #health

🌍🐝 Happy #WorldBeeDay! 🐝🌍 Today, we celebrate the incredible bees – the silent partners of a healthy planet. 🌿🌺 These busy pollinators play a vital role in biodiversity, ensuring the reproduction of countless plants and contributing to a thriving ecosystem. 🌻🌷 Their decline is a worrying sign of environmental imbalance. ⚠️ At EV, we're committed to protecting the environment and promoting sustainable agriculture. 🌱 That's why we develop innovative biological solutions that support healthy plant growth without harming bees or other beneficial insects. 🌼🦋 Let's all work together to create a future where bees can continue to flourish and support a healthy, sustainable food system. 🌍🍯 #Biodiversity #SustainableAgriculture #BiologicalSolutions 🌸🐝

Indigenous peoples play a vital role in preserving biodiversity and promoting sustainable food systems. For generations, Native communities have practiced food sovereignty—protecting traditional knowledge, cultivating diverse crops, and fostering a deep connection to the land. As we face global food challenges, Indigenous wisdom offers pathways to sustainability and resilience. Let’s stand with Indigenous peoples in their efforts to reclaim and protect ancestral foodways. 🌿🍲 🌽Photo by Kelly Sikkema on Unsplash #redstarintl #WorldFoodDay #IndigenousFoodSovereignty #ProtectOurLand #FoodJustice #SustainableFutures

Plant health plays a vital role in sustaining life on our planet. From providing food and oxygen to supporting ecosystems and biodiversity, plants are the foundation of life. However, international travel and trade have introduced a myriad of plant pests, posing significant risks to global biodiversity and food security. Invasive pest species, driven by factors like climate change, threaten not only our crops but also the delicate balance of ecosystems. The response to these challenges, such as increased pesticide use, can harm pollinators and natural pest enemies, further impacting our environment. As we commemorate #InternationalDayofPlantHealth, let's pledge to: 🌿 Raise awareness about the importance of plant health in achieving food security and environmental sustainability. 🌱 Promote sustainable agricultural practices and responsible plant trade to prevent the spread of pests and diseases. 🌿 Support research and innovation in plant health management to safeguard crops, forests, and natural habitats. 🌱 Collaborate across borders to address global plant health challenges and ensure the health and well-being of future generations. #PlantHealth #Sustainability #FoodSecurity
